Greetings sexy ladies & gentlemen -

I have a competitor who is soaking up a shitload of link juice from hit counters that idiots like me installed on their sites in the 90's.

The hit counters on all of these sites are broken & not functioning. However, the sites themselves are still functioning.

Apparently google thinks the links are important since the sites are from the fucking internet stone age.

I need ideas on how to take this link juice and redirect it to my site.

What would you do?

Idea 1: Email all the sites and let them know that their hit counter is broken & hope they remove it. That would get the link from my competitor taken away...

Idea 2: I've considered building my own hit counter & offering them new code to fix their broken counter with (of course leaving a link to my site).

Creative ideas?

Now for your trouble ...

Does the competitor still maintain the site? Maybe you can buy it from them.

Or if they're on shitty hosting, perhaps they have bandwidth limitations...

my recommendation. GO to odesk or freelancer and have someone whip you up a quick stats counter with a cool analytics style panel for them to use. Then email and say

"hey noticed your hitcounter is broken, we've got this better one here: http://www.yoursite.com/embedcodez"

Make it stupid easy for them.

Even make something that helps them find and replace the old code.

Create quick hit counter site - email sites with the old one saying something like "this is Joe from {old stat counter name}, we notice you are still using the old version of {old stat counter name} which was closed down last year and replaced with {your new stat counter name} please update your code with the code below - insert your tracking code with link back - profit - share profit with Butcher

Yeah, I think I'm going go with an approach like this.

Hopefully I can repay you with pictures of more beautiful women.

If not, well fuck...

Thanks for the input fellas.
