I see regular LPs less and less and see these review sites more and more where people review multiple products in the same niche. what are people's experiences with the review site vs LP? which works better?

It depends on a lot of factors, the niche you're promoting, the audience you're promoting to, and the platform.
For example for the same offer I ran on both adwords and facebook, and graphic lp gave me a 80% roi on facebook, but I needed a more informational style LP with more content on adwords for breaking even.
The only thing you can do is to test it yourself, or go out and see what other affiliates are doing.

look at the person that is consistently showing in the number position for the keyword(s) you are going after. if they are using a review page, you're going to use a review page. if they're using a straight lp, you're using a straight lp.

Just test it. I will say that local campaigns I do for offline businesses do better with a well-made straight LP than any sort of comparison/review type. It just has to do with how comfortable the viewer is with the product, or how much convincing they need.
