Does anyone do this? has done this?

Obv unethical blah blah, but what are the realistic chances of getting caught?

Happens all the time. Go for it bro. I'm assuming you are adding these users to your mailing list? Just make sure your newsletter emails contain proper unsubscribe info.

To cover your tracks just get one of your friends to submit their email addresses. You can say they were the winner of the iPad. If FTC comes knocking just get them to play along.

Or just give someone an actual iPad and send it return receipt requested. Also ask them for a picture with it and few sentences saying how great you are.

Couldn't you say something like 'lucky subscriber #10000' gets an ipad? By the time you get to 10000 subscribers you could have enough to buy one. Then again, if you never get to 10000 subscribers, nobody gets an ipad.

What do they do with the emails collected? Surely you can't make a dollar fifty a pop just by promoting offers to their emails?
