I've been advertising adult websites for the past 10 years, sales ratios under 1:750 are usually considered pretty good (with large amounts of diverse traffic sources / minimal search engine).

But now that i want to try advertising a few mainstream products and playing with PPC, I'm guessing it's a pretty big challenge pulling a profit, when your paying $1-2 per click on a product that only pays $20-$30.

What type of sales ratios are you guys obtaining with your PPC campaigns? Is 1:20 easily obtainable when your selling the typical offers that pay $20-$30? Coming from adult, that type of sales ratio seems unobtainable.

I guess good sales ratios are possible...

I just reworded my ad. Got one click and made one sale. :1bluewinky:

My first mainstream sale in over 8 years. Feels good.

congrats zipfur, that first sale is always encouraging...
once you start getting constant amount of clicks / sales per day, that's when you'll get a better understanding on what your ROI is.
It definitely is difficult making that first sale, so congrats.

Thanks, it was nice, but bitter sweet now ;)

The ratios are starting to climb, taking another loss at this rate. Its a fun experiment, just trying to find a products average sales rate over time - via your traffic source and ads.

Its hard to experiment with different ads, when the the traffic is so little. CTR is a little too high, i need to make my ads less appealing!

Unfortunately, at this point, it's entirely a matter of "throw it at the wall. If it sticks, repeat, if it doesn't, try something else".

It's hard to tell you what a good ratio is unless we know how much you're paying, and what's the payout. Easy enough to work out mathematically. And there's a damn fine post about it in this section too.

The stuff I tend to push gives me an 8%-12% commission, the average sale is about $125 give or take the extreme outliers, so I'm happy with a 1:20 on my $0.15-$0.25 clicks as it's a decent return.

If you are direct linking, you may want to try a landing page. If you have a landing page you may want to tweak and test multiple variations of the page for higher ctr (to the offer) and conversion rate.

To answer your question. Yes, 1:20 or 5% conversion can be easily attainable when promoting mainstream products. Just be sure to focus in on your keywords, adcopy and lander.
