lol I tried to get a domestic partnership with a girl instead of marriage and was discriminated against because in the state of WA, to get a domestic partnership, you either have to be gay, or one of you has to be over 65 years old....

So 2 young people of opposite sex cannot get a domestic partnership.

We've been together unmarried for 10 years, I figure it shows more if you stay together because you want to be, rather than some bullshit piece of paper. I'm not religious and her parents would never accept a courthouse marriage, so we live in sin....happily.

I can see marriage becoming privatized, and the culture of romanticism/idealism surrounding it being kicked to the curb...

But there's absolutely no way it will disappear entirely (or even mostly).

Also, almost all human rituals and activities are "socially constructed." I'm not sure how pointing that out is supposed to negate their utility.
 
monogamy has been invented by the church in the middle ages to provide stability for the children.

There are a lot of behaviors that are completely natural for mammals that we shouldn't be doing, so that particular argument doesn't hold much weight. I'm not a defender for complete and total monogamy, but it's for other reasons.

Something I'm interested in is seeing how divorces play out for same-sex couples and how that affects proceedings in heterosexual divorces. This could turn out to have some long-term effects that improve things greatly for men in the family courts.
