:error:
Hi all,
i have been reading WF for a few months now, and its been a valuable source of information for me as ive been getting into AF, so thought i would just say thanks for that.
Anyway, thought i would share a bit of a stupid error i made the last few days, because you never know when any others new to the scene may encounter the same sort of problem.
I started my first affiliate site a few weeks ago, a fairly content rich site, but was focusing on a specific affiliate campaign using PPC. I have started off in YSM to test out the PPC campaigns, and the first few days were mainly just research into keywords.
Anyway, last week i finally started to see some return. I designed my own landing page (web development is my main area of expertise, which just makes this even more ironic!), and was starting to see an increase in traffic from Yahoo. I think by the 3rd day i was seeing a 500% ROI, although, the investment was small, and this did fluctuate a bit over the next couple of days.
Then last friday, i made a couple of small changes to my landing page.. only small content changes really, but i hastily uploaded the new LP, and had a look in safari and FF, seemed ok.. Over the next few days, my campaign took a complete nose dive
and i was getting absolutely no click through from the LP.
I was stumped, until today, when i was looking at my visitor stats over the last few days, and realized that 100% of my traffic over the weekend was coming from Internet Explorer users.. I checked out the LP in IE, and to my horror, it actually crashed the browser.. I have now narrowed this down to simply a missing DIV tag...
I suppose there are two morals to this story..
1) People should never use IE, its not big and its not clever
2) To quote a film that everyone should use as a life bible: "Assumption is the mother of all f*** ups!"
Even if you have your LP done for you, its probably best to check that its working properly, because unfortunately, like me, there are people out there who get paid to do this and still screw it up
Well thats my first post, feel free to flame/troll/rick, dick and trick roll or what ever.. just wanted to get started contributing to the community.. even if it was a stupid post!!
