I'm about to start using iDevAffiliate to run our affiliate program,
and I was wondering if there's any way I can make the affiliate links
search engine friendly. I can't think of anything so far.

OR does anyone have an affiliate script that comes like this?

This might not be a permanint fix for your problem but its what I use and you can shorten your URLs using something like TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a Tiny URL what this will do is make your URLs shorter and search engine friendly, they will also pass W3C validation.

The problem with using these URL shortener's is that all it does is act like a re-direct, which in turn slows down the time it takes for the end user to get to their destination, its not much of a slow down, maybe half a second to a second but its enough.

Plus if your URL shortening host goes down your links are not going to work so you'll have to sit there and change the links around to get them back to normal which could be a hassle, I've never had this problem with TinyURL and they seem to be pretty quick on the re-direct.

This might just be a temporary fix until there is another way to achieve this but at least its one way that works.

what you suggest would help his affiliates, but not him, as in this case he IS the affiliate handing out those seo-unfriendly links ;)

@crossfittn: it might get a bit complicated to get real se-friendly links, as you would have to produce an seo-friendly link for each and every affiliate. are you thinking about something like "http://product-id.aff-id.domain.com"?
where would the real benefit be anyhow, as each affiliate would have to bring the links that you deliver in line with his linking strategy anyways. e.g. i wouldn't deal with those kind of links anyways but instead make them like "http://mysubdomain.domain.com" where subdomain redirects to your link.

The way I see it being set up is like this:

1. Affiliate must register every site he will link from in the backend.
2. If he's gonna do PPC then he'll get different links.

I want to have the affiliate link directly to my actual page. Like this, for example:
Weight Loss Program

Then, the software would somehow detect the referrer, and if it's one of his sites, then he'll get credit for the sale.

What do you think?

This way, I could get a lot of good backlinks.

as i am solely doing ppc, the only thing i care about is getting a single link, as i take care of the rest myself :D

but i definitely like your site and as i am currently learning the sem ropes in that particular niche, i would very much appreciate a notice once your affiliate program goes live. what's the payout per sign-up/sales ?

1. It's easy with htaccess. Look at some modrewrite tutorials
2. They have just added this option in iDev, i noticed as we're planning on using that program as well. Not sure why they charge 200$ for that module though, it is easy to integrate your self, or I am missing something in their way of doing it.

Cheers,
Paul.
