Seattle bans words 'citizen' and 'brown bag' - Telegraph

Being born in Seattle, raised near Seattle, and currently working in Seattle, I can confirm that Washington State is one of the biggest nanny states in the country and Seattle is a cesspool of overly liberal, PC drones.

And the weather sucks.

So what are people going to do about their kids lunches in that area?

Poor Timmy will have to carry his Jello and sandwich in his hands and hope he doesn't drop them. No more comfortable lunch carrying system.

Don't see the big deal. Employers often dictate what words not to use when speaking to customers / cattle.

edit: Idiots above must have read the title, not the content. It's for employees of the state when speaking to the public, not citizens being banned from using those words.

That's fucking gay

I hate PC and everything about it. If they want to go around jerking themselves so be it.

Just moved back from living out there for 12 months. Kind fun, but Crazy place. Super liberal. And there's about a 10 dollar tax on liquor...

Wait till you live on the east coast and you get fined for having grass over 7", you get fined for not shoveling ice/snow off your sidewalk, and deal regularly with cops that are complete cocksuckers.

Then look at the rivers and they're all brown and polluted, here in WA they're crystal clear and full of fish.

Then compare it to this:

It's a different world here. The weather this year is the worst I've seen yet. It's august ffs and I had to turn the heater on in the car after having the window down today. Usually the summer makes it worth the rest of the year. But fuck it's still much nicer here than places on the east coast. Luckily I spend some time east of the cascades and get sun when visiting the gf's family regularly.

On the eastern shore of MD friends I took fishing in my boat got mercury poisoning from eating the fish and broke out in hives.

Meanwhile here in WA:

Maybe you have to live elsewhere to really appreciate it here....

It's like Alaska meets San Fransisco.

Being from Indiana, this is all I have ever known as a river.

I like to believe that the water is just muddy and it isn't actually polluted, but I really don't know one way or the other (and I'm not sure I want to know).

When I lived in OH we fucking swam in rivers just like that.

Then I moved to the eastern shore of MD and watched it deteriorate. But in recent years the Chesapeake has made a comeback after a lot of cleanup effort I've heard. As a kid we caught thousands of blue crab then they disappeared for 15+ years and are just now coming back. Then the people I took fishing got mercury poisoning from rockfish/striped bass we caught. Out here you can see salmon+trout+steelhead in just about any river. You can catch dungeness crab at low tide in knee high water with your hands, I fucking love it. :costumed-smiley-087 also lots of tech jobs . There are some real "snooty extreme liberal" weenies but whatever they're in every city..

The pacnw is the best part of the US, I could live just about anywhere from Mendocino north though tbh. Fucking gorgeous. Every time I have to come home after being out there it kills me.

Seattle sounds cool.. much like Denver.. I hear Portland is also like it

Portland is like Seattle's younger, underachieving, college drop-out sister (who had a brief stint as a stripper but quit after her dad found out).

Not hating, and there isn't much of a difference between Seattle and Portland except -
1) Seattle's bigger
2) Portland favors meth whereas Seattle's all about the heroine
3) No sales tax in Portland
4) Girls in Seattle are more likely to shave their armpits

No doubt. I haven't travelled extensively nor have I lived anywhere but in the Seattle area.

You're right, though - I definitely need to see more of the world/country before I can put things in perspective, I guess.

To be honest, most of the reasons people love Western WA don't resonate with me, really. I'm not an outdoorsy type of dude, could care less about mountains, and don't like the sound of rain.

I'll admit - the summers in Seattle are fucking awesome, most of the time.

Shindig, just out of curiosity: what do you think of the Seattle area, culturally?

ain't nothing wrong with that water, it looked just like that when squaws were fetching water in gourds with papeese on their backs.

i tried to do a fair bit of fishing/camping/freshwater recreation type shit during my time living in san diego and though the lakes and rivers were crystal clear and beautiful, they all had fences and sidewalks around them for the rollerbladers, they charged $20 to "get in", most restricted "water contact" (yes, that means touching the water at all with a bodypart) to tuesdays/thursdays/saturdays (lulz). in short, they did all the nanny libby nonsense we've come to expect from CA, all shit that i'm sure probably goes on in seattle too.

no thanks, i'll take more color in my water and less government dumbfuckery.

20 years ago, the balance of political power was in eastern Washington. Think ranchers, farmers, people who built shit and produced food. The states politics ran red and it was a very "un-nanny state". Then the west side population boomed as Californians exodused north...and like the fucking plague that they are, they insisted on changing things "to be like the were back home", even though they couldn't fucking get away fast enough. I'm seeing the same shit in Idaho over the last 5 years. Left Temecula because Temecula sucks, must convert local politics to mirror Temecula as quickly as possible. Fucking brilliant.

And the weather sucks.

Wrong side of the mountains. Cascades create a damn big rainshadow, it's sunny more than anything else out East. Hotter than fuck in summer though, pretty much need to live lake or river front to enjoy it. Spring and Fall are glorious.
