Second guessing my major?

I'm an incoming sophomore at TCU right now, and currently pursuing a B.A. in mathematics. I love math, and just finished up with my calcs(I know that's not shit so far...) haha

But recently I've been getting involved in Affiliate Marketing over the past four months. I'm knowledge hungry, and spend around 4-6 hours reading over the forums, watching over a few of my websites and investing some money on Facebook using PPC and PPM. I'm currently on EWA, and really like the network, but know that there's so much out there I still don't know and need to learn. I know that other than a few part-time business deals, AM is probably what I want to get involved in full-time. However, I want to learn about this stuff in school instead of Linear Algebra and these classes that I'll probably hardly use. Is there a specific major or minor I should take for affiliate marketing? Or should I just keep learning on the side and get the math degree? I know the degree looks so good, and is what a lot of people have here, but I guess I'll stop babbling and ask if anyone would please share their experiences with me? :D

I would stick with a math degree.
math > all

you can learn all you need to know yourself for am, and if you are capable of doing math all the better.

Just pick a major that you like and stick with it. Affiliate marketing doesn't require an education; it requires a brain. Study what you love and devote some time to AM, and everything will turn out for the best :) At least in my case it did. BTW I have a Linear Algebra midterm in 45 minutes. Fuck that shit.

stick with it, it's worth it. Have my B.S. in Physics, going for MSEE + MBA. You can get an MBA later, a BA in Business is worthless.

agreed. i got my degree in mechanical engineering and i have to say it prepared me pretty well for the real world..the math side of it doesnt hurt either.

Naa man, I can see a degree in mathematics helping more then hurting. Imagine understanding theoretical mathematics and being able to predict the next acai berry months or years before the trend hits? Millions and millions of dollars for you.

Math and be used in all kinds of crazy ways that will help in your affiliate endeavors.

You can change that sentence to anything

Image understanding zoology and being able to predict the next acai berry months or years before the trend hits? Millions and millions of dollars for you.

Image understanding quantum physics and being able to predict the next acai berry months or years before the trend hits? Millions and millions of dollars for you.

Image understanding sociology and being able to predict the next acai berry months or years before the trend hits? Millions and millions of dollars for you.

zoology, quantum physics and sociology are really just mathematics in disguise.

True enough.

the real meaning of these post is if you have the aptitude to get your math degree, you will be smart enough to make some internet money. and yeah, math is the basis of everything.

Ball out in a technical field so you have a solid backup if you dont want to stick with AM. Even though TCU isnt exactly a feeder to Wall Street, with a solid technical background and excellent grades you will always have some solid options if you stick with a hard science as opposed to some lib art BS.

i got a comp sci degree(shit tons of math).

I can't really imagine any type of "marketing" or "business" degree helping you out for this shit regardless.

Any math degree or any degree with a SOLID mathematical foundation such as engineering, comp sci, etc. is probably your best bet.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm currently reconsidering my major for the third time.

Math is GREAT for this business, maybe something with computers for a minor.

No business or marketing degree will teach you a thing about success in this business. Honestly if anything it will just hurt you because it will show you "how business should be done" and stifle creativity. Business and marketing graduates are some of the least creative and resourceful people I know. I've heard the degrees were better 20 years ago before it just got turned into the degree ever middle class kid who's parents send them to college do so the colleges had to dumb it down a ton.

Large parts of math were developed specifically for physics. Newton developed calculus specifically to describe physical phenomena. The XKCD mindset of "math is the purest" is garbage, because math has been, historically, used as a tool AND a science in its own.

I'm sure someone else has already written this (I haven't read all posts) but you'll find in the grand scheme of things, the actual degree you get doesn't usually matter all that much. Just pick something you enjoy and stick with it. i don't even have a degree and I'm just fine. :-)

Thanks for all the input everyone, it definitely motivates me knowing that most of you guys have already done it, and that I'm on the right track. Not to be the suck up bitch, but I really think 99% of the people who commented know what the fuck they're actually talking about, which doesn't happen too often. Back to the subject though, I'm currently on track for my B.A. since I'm taking a foreign language, but if I went for my bachelors in science would it be worth all the extra math? I really don't mind the classes, but wanna save all the money I can. Especially at this expensive ass college!!!

Truth. Not only that, but Math BA/BS + MBA = $300,000 a year salary at Goldman Sachs + $500,000 bonus if you play your cards right. And that's in your first couple of years. Do both that and AM if you have the work ethic and ball out of control real quick.
