I wanted to get some opinions on something I've been thinking about. I read a book about direct marketing and one thing stood out to me:

The ad SELLS the product, the quality of the product determines the return rate.

This means that a mediocre product marketed very well (YOU NEED THIS OR YOU WILL NOT BE COMPLETE) should make some money. I am considering doing just this in a large (ie saturated) market with an info product like weight loss or how to start a business.

Has anyone else sold an ebook online? If so what are your thoughts regarding this business? I'm sure it's pretty cut-throat out there but if there is potential for a good pitch to make money then it may be worth it!

as long as your e-book isn't about "making millions of dollars online" and deals with something that has not been exposed to e-book informational products, you could get some legitimate responses.

If your goal is to sell a shitty product and hope the returns are low, then yeah, you're in the wrong forum. Might as well just go to clickbank and sell all their shitty products. Save you the work of creating the product.

I'm more interested in hearing people's experience with selling info products online than a debate on whether ebooks suck or not :)

info products could work if you have the right niche and can get the info in front of your target audience. Just keep in mind that anything that shows how to make money online is so overly saturated.

Just don't try to sell it to us. Don't market ebooks to marketers, PLEEZ

I'm fine with selling that crap to non-IMers though.

yeah can make a shitload of $$$ with it. but please non-internet marketing threads please. there is millions of niches that u can write about with no competition and costper aquistion at $6 per

I think it's a legitimate business if you're selling eBooks with real substance.

Make a good product and go for it, what do you have to lose?

Certainly true, although the quality sells it as well. If a friend buys a car and I love it, I may buy one, too. Don't underestimate viral marketing, personal recommendations and this stuff. If something is good, people want it. Marketing helps alot but it's no substitute for quality, especially long term.
