How difficult is it to get top 10 serp rankings for keywords depending on how many exact phrase results there are?

What i mean is, can i get ranked basic stuff like squidoo and ezinearticles if i am going after long tail keywords that have 70 000 or less competing pages?

should i go for keywords fewer competing pages?

is the number of exact phrase results irrelevant?
 


Absolutely possible to get ranking with only 70k search results.

I have sites that rank above the fold for 5M+ search results.

There are of course numerous factors to consider and only knowing the exact sistuation will this be a solid possibility
