Ok I've tried to put up some quick campaigns awhile ago and it was ugly. I think I was trying too much to make quick cash.

So I'm trying to make it the proper way. Here's what I've done so far:

(sorry for my english btw)

1. Found a niche on a topic I know a lot about and which I like.
Time spent : 2 hours

2. Bought keywordcountry.com membership and had a look at their software.
Time spent : 2 hours

3. Bought spyfu.com 3 day membership (damn you gotta buy at least a month if you're going with keywordspy.com!)
Time spent : 5 minutes

4. Did research on the niche but I already know it huge AND competitive (no it's not ringtones). I figure I'd give it a try since the competition's ads, landing pages and offer sucked ass.
Time spent : 4 hours

5. Did keyword research
Time spent : 10 to 12 hours

6. Set up a hosting account, Wordpress and a Wordpress theme
Time spent : 1 hour

7. Wrote 7 articles (I'm planning to keep this site updated with real content as it's a topic I like very much).
Time spent : 7 hours

8. Researched affiliate programs and registered with about 10 of them.
Time spent : 2 hours

9. Created a first landing page after studying what seemed to work best on the competition's part.
Time spent : 2 hours

10. Create 1 AdWords campaign with 4 tight adgroup with 2 ads in each. Made sure I had mostly "Great QS" everywhere.
Time spent : 3 hours

And now I'm gonna wait a little, see how it goes and improve it as much as I can.

Now I don't pretend I'm doing everything ok, this is pretty much the first campaign I'm trying to do correctly so your comments and suggestions are welcomed.

BTW I thought keywordcountry.com is a pretty cool tool!

I'm guessing you're doing affiliate marketing? If you are, what's the point in having so much content? Content isn't supposed to outshine the offer in my opinion. Content is good for those who may or may not buy something. I target the "buyers" so there is very little point in throwing text in their face.

Yes I'm doing AM of course but the content site shows AdSense ads too. The landing page is "outside" Wordpress.

I thought I could get a better PR with content and get some AdSense money to pay for PPC.

Again I may be totally wrong!
:)

Well getting leads is hard enough already. putting adsense on your pages will just make it even harder for you. Sure, you will get adsense revenue, but it will cancel out when you're not getting leads and still paying high amounts of money for ppc. might as well do a more arbi targetted campaign instead if you want adsense.

Update : even though I am getting great and ok QS on most of my keywords, lots of them are pretty expensive ($1.00 - $1.50).

The upside is that I run my own web server, therefore I've got some really good stats and I'm getting a good idea of what people searched exactly. I am now filtering out (negative keywords) stuff I dont "offer".

I'll be adding more long tail keywords.

And how about registering for affiliate programs? I mean most of them require you to have a website no?

Thanks for your help btw :)

Hi Beefy - I can't judge your system of working because everyone does things differently, but you should be commended for keeping track of your time. It's important to know exactly how long it takes to research and set things up, especially since everything seems to be so time-consuming. I spend quite a bit of time researching and consider it as productive time but I think that we tend to overdo things in this area - we research the thing to death instead of just taking action.

As to being required to have a website, I have found that some programs expect you to have a website and some do not. For those that do, you can simply register a relevant domain name and advise that you are in the process of developing a site, and that you need their programs to make it happen.

Well I kind of wondered if I had spent too much time on some portions of the process, that's why I kept track of my time.

Maybe someday I can look back and see where I waste my time.

Gotta say that all that AM thing is kind of overwhelming at first... but it's so addictive at the same time.

Yea like grafix said, everyone does their own thing. I'm not saying don't do it, but just giving my opinion on the subject. You should always do some of your own testing but also keep suggestions from others in mind.
