Anyone who reads TheOatmeal may remember that a year ago, they did a comic calling out FunnyJunk for stealing their content and re-hosting it without attribution.

Well, looks like they had some more back and forth and now FunnyJunk is now demanding $20,000 in damages.

I don't know if we're missing context or not but from the appearance, whoever owns FunnyJunk can go fuck himself with a giant spiked dildo.

Saw this, dude raised $20,000 for charity instead of paying the bullshit claim in less than an hour.

The dude that runs the Oatmeal, Matthew Inman, is actually an extremely brilliant web developer and marketer. His satirical technology cartoons are a must fucking read.

Oatmeal is down, anyone got an update. It looks like things got cereal.

All the links for funnyjunk are broken, was it working before and they removed it? LOL

Looks like a job for Aaron Kelly, lawyering for the lulz.

This is also related to the recent WF thread of http://www.wickedfire.com/shooting-shit/158324-what-maddox-thinks-seo.html. Oatmeal even makes reference to thousands of similar sites being the new Ebaumsworld.

Steps to profit:
  1. Make new joke site.
  2. Add "user submit" feature.
  3. Hire cheap outsourcers to scour other funny sites, rip images/content, and remove their logos / watermarks / attributions.
  4. Plaster the site with ads.
  5. When complaints are made, claim the users did it, and point to the "user submit" feature.
As pointed out in the comments, the giveaway is the removal of attribution. No real user would bother doing that.
