So I have read just about everything I can find on here about PPC, and I am nervous about it but ready to start checking it out with a CPA offer. So what is your one best piece of advice to give before taking the plunge?

B'man's too modest.

First Read PPC.BZ

Second, if you have read just about everything on here about PPC then did it completely pass you by that testing and getting started yourself is the only way?

Stop talking, get started. Report results along the way and you will get a helleva a lot more detailed information.

Be prepared to lose money in the first month, but use the testing results to make it profitable.

don't try to sell free advice I give out on other forums, as ebooks on digital point.

loser =)

Do it. Stop f'ing reading. That was my problem for a while I wanted all the knowledge I could possibly get. But really you learn more with your first 3 campaigns then you will reading for a month.

It's like Sky Diving. You can read all you want about how to pull the shoot, when to pull the shoot, etc... But if you're never gonna jump then why the fuck are you reading about it?

Test in different channels (Google, MSN, Yahoo, Facebook, etc.), and don't be afraid to lose money. The latter will happen. Even experienced PPCers lose money when testing out new campaigns to run.

Definitely find some coupons. Yahoo and MSN AdCenter do $25-$50 coupons all the time. Then you can buy some clicks and start testing without using your own money. Let's say you spend $50 and make $25. That would normally suck but since it's free money, you come out on top, and you get some data to test with to tweak your campaign and make it profitable. Just go to Google and type in "Yahoo Search Marketing Coupon" or "Microsoft AdCenter Coupon". You will find a few that don't work, but there should be some that are still active. Facebook Ads does coupons a lot, if you want to experiment with that.

Also, don't be afraid to ditch a losing campaign, but don't ditch it too quickly. You almost never hit a profitable campaign the first time you throw some keywords up and hit go. You need to tweak it, take out the bad keywords, maybe bump your CPC on the good keywords, etc.

Oh yeah, and get a tracker. I recommend Prosper202. It's free and it rocks. Recent security bug aside, it's a great system.

In all honesty, it's typically easier and much cheaper to begin with SEO and organic search traffic. No, you won't experience the immediate rush of traffic, but you will slowly pick up analytical skills and design knowledge that applies to all forms of AM. Also, SEO and PPC are beginning to go hand in hand more so everyday (with new QS algorithms etc.)

It's just my 2 cents, but if you haven't got at least a couple naturally ranking sites I would start there first. Might even want to stoop down to the adsense level to generate some passive income. I say stoop down only because there's always been sort of an "anti-adsense" feel around here, but, having an extra $150/day or so eases up the pressure of losing or winning with your PPC campaigns.
