one hosting company took a dump today for a few hours and i didn't realize it until an hour or so later on.

i've seen the free ones but they usually check like once a day or something. anyone got a service they'd recommend to let me know asap if my sites go down?

The great big orange box that says...

"Sign up for a FREE account The free Pingdom account lets you monitor one website or server and includes 20 free SMS alerts. Email alerts are free."

This.

You can only monitor one server with each free account. But there's nothing stopping you from opening multiple accounts.

So I feel like a dumb ass but you did answer my question (I click get started, that was why). Anyway, I am going to give it a try and compare.

Pingdom has the fewest false alerts of any system we tried, and we've tested most. That said, we run an in house system based on Nagios now to monitor everything, not just see if servers are up.
