I just love douchebags that make those Sitepoint contests, give small awards and then sell that same design for five times more money.

I was a bit curious about the real brief so I've played with one URL that was given in the brief. And then, I've found this:

I agree with photoads, its just outsourcing, whats the difference between outsourcing to a contractor vs. a contest?

If the designers weren't happy to do it they wouldn't. It's a great way to get a lot of different designs for cheap and for the designers it's a great way to hone their skills with valuable feedback.
