Yes there are some awesome .com's in spanish of which I own a few. Slang and knowing what country you are targeting is everything. If you screw that up it's like saying "howdy ya'll I reckon I got a payday loan from over in that there store" and then claiming to be from Britain. Both are from English speaking countries, but accents and terminology vary greatly.
I'm fluent in Spanish, and I can tell you that the stuff that comes out of most translation tools is ok for spiders , but would be like reading markov for humans.
Also consider that whatever content site in English you are translating, may not interest a Spanish speaking user. Advertising as I have seen it and compared from English to Spanish is way different as well.
For English speakers, subtlety and suggestion is usually the way to go for a lot of things, Spanish users for the most part tend to be less savvy and more naive when surfing. So believe it or not a lot of in your face stuff seems to work.
One thing is for sure, looking at the search volume for certain spanish terms , I can tell you that it would be a good idea to make a Spanish hedge site/sites for the future. The Spanish surfer is still in their infancy.
Spanish spam anyone?
