End of the rainbow
Ok so I'm a total noob when it comes to buying backlinks as I've never done it before but I think I have a site that might benefit from some extra links.

I don't want to go crazy ... I want something that looks natural, decent quality (i.e. not 1000s of xrumer links) and something that's done slow and steady over a period of time. Ideally something I can sign-up and pay one time and then they will build a variety of different types of links over an extended period of time with the keywords/pages I specify.

Can anyone recommend a good service/provider for this?

Honestly, hiring some Filipino kid is probably your best bet.

Write/create unique content, and upload it to quality article/video
directories. Old fashioned link building... people are dying for great
content.

I mean, you can rent some high quality links that will probably benefit
you. But if you're just hoping to pay someone a monthly fee to do all
the work, you might have a hard time unless you're willing to spend
some serious coin.

Depending on your budget, I'd just pay for high PR blogrolls and paid blogposts. Eliquid has a drip feed blog commenter and Guerilla has drip feed blasts that may help you. It would be silly NOT to pay for links in ANY competitive niche, imo.

I personally think you need to evaluate your own links and try to determine what you need. There are a variety of link services available and it is clear that some are primarily about quantity (which is needed) and some are about quality (which is also needed).

How is your backlinks looking now? My personal recommendation is to sprinkle in a mixture. Get a service that will give you several backlinks to your website over a period of time and then start buying up links on sites that are related to your niche. 3 - 4 PR3+ sitewide links will go a long way, but Google will catch on quickly if you aren't mixing in other stuff like blog posts, blog comments, web 2.0 properties, etc.

Im new to wf but have been a member of other forums for a while that offer seo services , including myself.

I think diversifying your type of backlinks is the best way to get where you want to be. Doing all profile blasts , or home page backlinks won't benefit you as much as Cushing it up and doing bits of everything.

It also depends on your niche too. I recently setup a micro niche site and used my own article submission service to 2 article networks and that was it. The site got on page 1 within 2 weeks. This wouldnt have worked of it was competitive though.
