As a Sprint customer I'm looking forward to finally getting a decent phone this Saturday June 6th with the Palm Pre. However, I just saw on CNBC that Apple plans to announce the new iPhone on June 8th - very aggressive!

With competition like this we might finally start reaping some benefits as consumers.

Cool. I wouldn't mind hearing a review of the Palm Pre. I've always went with more basic Sony Ericson's etc. but was thinking of venturing into something more elaborate. Heard the iPhone is not all that great.

Also, I hear the Palm Pre won't be available in Canada for a while.

Tthe "Smartphone Battle" has been over for quite some time, at least on the software front, and now we're just waiting on Google to claim the winnings.

WinMo, iFonz et al can hang up their hats. Android's got it all. And since there's some serious hardware coming [read: every body's doing it], probably by the end of the year, Sergey and Larry need only wait and high-five each other.

You can't compare any of the phones with the new Nokia N97. It's coming out this month and for the first time in nokia history you can pre order in US at the same time as EU, also much cheaper.

good luck getting a Pre on saturday, unless you have a hookup.

I heard most stores aren't getting more than a few at a time.

Pre does look great, but im going to wait a bit more for real hands on Customer reviews of reception, etc.

Right on, thanks for sharing that. Will be looking into it.

heh, I know this is probably OLD NEWS to everyone - but I just discovered Google411 recently. Man, totally useful. FREE directory assistance!

Looks like Google is taking over anything to do with communications

cheers

ive got a bb and love it the iphone is a toy very cool to play with but as a business solution worthless. i hate the threaded messages which is supposed to be fixed with the new update.

But for a business solution the bb is by far the best i have used. the only thing with the bb that could use some work is the default browser. Bolt has a browser that you can install and it is better but still not great

You can get a refurbished iPhone over at ATT right now. $150 for 16 gig, $99 for 8gig.

I just picked up a 16 gig, and yes I know that the next gen is coming out in just a few days but I'm not paying what's probably going to be $400+ for a phone.

i called the sprint store in the poorest neighborhood in my city and they said they're getting 10 of them, so i'm hoping if i get there just before they open i'll get lucky.

Looking to get the pre for my wife. Yes, so that I can play with development.

I covered that in one of my blogs...the new N97 should kill!! Qwerty and touchscreen all in one. Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, Bluetooth, a Flash-capable browser, a 5-megapixel camera, and 32 GB of internal storage.
Damn..

The con is that you'll get it for about $600...the Iphone's about $200 these days.

I can't see any reasons(except price) why anybody would even look in to buying another phone.
It's not $600, i got it for $760 together with free bluetooth and S&H. In Europe is about 800 euros.

edit:
I just watched the review on slashgear.com, damn that palm pre is so fucking slow...

so i was able to snag a Pre today. gotta say, its the tits! much smaller than the iphone and very comfortable in my pocket. the touch screen and keyboard are both great, no complaints there. camera phone quality is really good and the internet speed is lightning fast. i got the touchstone charger accessory and i'm already loving not having to plug it in everytime.

I still really don't think anyone can touch the Iphone, this Nokia N97 looks cool the interface still doesn't seem to be as nice as apples..

it's been what 2 years an apple still owns the market and has yet another release come.

The pre is anything but slow, online or off

Rarely stutters even with 4-5 apps open at once. once you go past that it starts to chug but its still more useable in its stuttering than any other phone I've used.

I'm listening to pandora, using aim, have an e-mail client open, am typing this post and have another live browser window open with no speed problem at all

Try the phone yourself, don't rely on videos to reach a conclusion about it, it amazes that this phone handles what it can in real time
