Some guy following up on a $100 adwords coupon i received in the mail, and wanting to set up an appointment for a free consultation with a Google Adwords rep, where he could walk me through the set up.

interesting tactic. i called him out a little, just so i could get more info. apparently (obviously) it wasnt actually Google calling. he was calling on behalf of G, some call center. i let him proceed and set up the appointment, to see whats going to happen. presumably he'll get me to sign up with the coupon under his code and he'll walk me through a basic set up?

how does that $100 coupon work? i see ads everywhere. is there an affiliate program? and does the Aff get a recurring commision if the person continues to use adwords?

the number he called from was 613 842 4155

Yeah, if you hear an actual voice on the other end of the phone, it certainly aint the Googles, lol. It does seem like alot of promotion is behind that lately though...

i googled his number while i was talking to him, which is why i could get him to squirm a bit when i caught him in a lie, but as a true immer i wanted to learn his method so i let him continue.

if there is some sort of aff kickback from getting people to sign up for adwords, then its probably just someone on here that hired a call center to get people to sign up, and are offering a free 1 on 1 to help set up their first campaign. not sure how much margin is in it for them, unless theres recurring aff monies

Pretending to be google doesn't seem to work out in the long run for a lot of people. But the tactic does sound interesting.

I had same thing happen to me. The gist is to get you to blow through that credit and then become a ongoing adwords buyer.

whats the incentive for the seller tho? there must be a recurring adwords affiliate program.

if the kickback was only a % of the initial free $100 credit, it would be hardly worth it to go to the trouble imo. the guy on the phone didnt even have an indian or filipino accent

This is huge in Australia at the moment...I get these calls all the time from Yodel and other ones.. some douchebags have gone as far to make fake interview videos. I just put them on speaker and fuck with them while I work. None of em have a fucking clue.

This guy looks like he is sweating and has stains on his shirt lol.

Quite possible that it was just some guy trying to sell you PPC management services, but I do have an Adwords account team/rep that I work with for my FT job. If you spend enough money, you will get one too. Google does have sales reps that work for them as well. Could have been a call center for G or some BS guy.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing.

Maybe they just hired a call center or something? That would be my guess.

G has been pushing this pretty hard lately. They actually do have outsourced call centers now with a lot of salespeople. They're trying to get smaller businesses and individuals to sign up. The thinking being that the $100 coupons aren't enough for people who have no idea how to use or get started with AdWords in the first place. So they guide them through the setup process and leave em hanging once their credit runs out.

I recently signed up for the Google Engage Adwords program... and part of the disclaimers say that the Google Engage program is technically NOT page of Google. I was like... whatever, just give me my $2000 worth of coupons. BAM, done!

Can you use them all yourself, or do you have to give (read:sell) them to clients?

Had these guys call as well. The good thing is they'll put $100 free for each of your websites and they'll design campaign for you so I want to see what they come up with.

Google lists this number on their website under adwords: 1-877-721-1738

They are for "new" accounts. But its ok for you to manage the accounts under your MCC Account. So your pretty much free to do what you want. They give you 20 at a time and you can reload them as often as needed. Just be careful or you will get yourself banned in a heartbeat.
