So my friend is in the process of getting fucked over by a landlord

Long story short
Friend signs a fairly light contract/intent to lease, puts down a deposit, landlord waits around till the last minute to send the lease and HOA covenants which will be included in the lease, then sends the most ridiculous lease document I've ever seen. Far beyond even the garbage college town land lords would give you. Then refuses to modify the terms (which aren't included in the intent to lease). Basically my friend would be assuming more liability than if they bought a house.

So not only is he going to try and retain the deposit but my friend is now 2 weeks closer to move out with no place to live.

This landlord has a particularly weak online presence despite finding all of his tenants online. I would like to help this landlord develop a much larger online presence. Where are your favorite places to help him SEO his name and company name? Any favorite techniques for getting fast results that are hard to get rid of? Also anything I should avoid to stay out of trouble? I've got 500 drippy links a day with no place to go.

Not ready to post up his info yet, but here's some boobs:

help the landlord to get on the googlez for keywords like "giant fucking douchebag scammer"

Put the time and attention into building your own campaign. Provide value. Make more money. Invest.

Or bust a nut ranking one out of thousands of small-time landlords for derogatory keywords.

Slumlords are a dime a dozen. If you want to waste your time on him though, make it worth it.

Start a Slumlord site featuring him as the Slumlord of the month, make an example out of him. Then let other people submit their own stories. Kind of like rip-off report.

Include crooked real estate agencies too, they love to pull shit like this. While your friend is going through a pretty big inconvienience, he is also lucky he didnt get into anything long term with this guy.

The bigger scams going around are landlords in foreclosure who go ahead and let their houses go up for auction or whatever, all the while still taking rent from unsuspecting tenants. Then these people only have 30 days to find a new place, and in the event of the unfortunate majority living paycheck to paycheck, no means of making a deposit for a new place or moving costs.

If your going to put in the effort to call out one, may as well use that effort to do as much damage as possible.

I fully realize this is a waste to time, but it's the principle of the thing. Just looking to rank for his and his companies names with some good content. Some people watch tv for entertainment, I play on the Internets.

*sarcasm

I think by help he means the opposite, as in hurt. Help his rankings rise and have a page that says this landlord sucks ass.
I sensed that their was sarcasm in their, but I just didn't get it. Especially when he mentioned DFB. But OK, if you can build a site that would legitimately hurt his business then have at it. Sounds like alot of work for something that may not work though.

make a website, photoshop a screenshot of AMAZING analytics to that site. Email him how you feel, and show him the screenshots

Not sure what the law is like over there but in the UK signing a ridiculous contract won't actually overwrite the legal rights you have in place. A lot stuff in tenancy contracts over here is unenforcable. But if he's messing around at such an early stage its likely he'll do worse.
You could try taking it to a solicitor (see if they have a free starter session) and see what they make of it and whether it is grounds to claim back the deposit.

To actually answer your question.

IRL Submit a real complaint to BBB....

Buy domain name with his keywords.
Write content for the site exposing the landlord and his tactics.

Example SEO friendly title "How scammy landlords in XXXX area screwing tenants out of their hard earned money now! (Example Within!)"
Better one "Rental Apartment in XXXX - who NOT to rent from - Name - Company - See how they're scamming people"

Example should include his name his companies name and the area
Submit site to reddit/ stumbleupon/ digg /etc... they'll eat that shit up.
Also find any Real estate listings and leave feedback on the properties etc.
Continue to help the site with some drips

Track the ranking of the site for his name and his companies name.

Email company

Just hit the fucking jackpot. His filed his LLC after signing the contract. The company didn't even exist at time they filed. I'll bet the secretary of state isn't going to like that.

/high fives all around

never fuck with people who are good at the internet

"rip off report" with a good title. very bad website and will for sure do the damage you're looking for. Once you submit, however, there is no turning back so be aware what you're posting.

So does that render the contract invalid? That would be cool if so!

Hmmm...may not be so lucky. Apparently he could have acted as a sole proprietor prior to forming the LLC. This wouldn't require registration.

Also forget the BBB. It's a joke. If a company pays to be a member then they will back them 6 ways from Sunday. This I know to be fact from personal experience.
