But I'm only getting 4 visitors per day. I used google's keyword tool and it says that the global searches per month are 110,000. Shouldn't I see more visitors per day?

You probably had it on "broad". On the left side click on the "exact" option to find out the real traffic that you should be getting. This is a common mistake.
Global is the wrong way to estimate traffic. Guess you figured that out the hard way.

The good thing is I didn't spend a lot of time and money on this site at all, so it could have been worse. Besides using the exact match when searching with the keyword tool, any other suggestions for keyword research?
that is cool, but at the same time sucks. I always talk to different noobs that make that mistake of doing broad instead of exact.
Unless kw is of super value ...it's a waste of time/efforts. Learn the lesson and move on to more profitable "exact" kw's
Just reoptimize the home page for a better keyword. You've already pumped link juice into it. You have a head start on another term.
try using the exact keyword so if i was to target make money online i would type in [make money online]
you might see some different results when searching the exact keyword
