I just got off the phone with a prospetive client that is looking to contract me for social media marketing. They are ready to sign a contract but they are wanting to see some examples (which is understandable). Problem is that the only facebook, twitter marketing efforts I have running, can not be used for this situation (few are adult, some are political, others have non-disclosures on them).

Does anyone have any ideas of what I could say or do to remedy this with the prospective customer. I didn't ask nor was I looking for a client for social media marketing, he just dropped in my lap. If I were looking for the business I would have some marketing campaigns running to show as examples. I wouldn't have even considered this offer but he is willing to sign a 70k contract. So I either need to come up with something fast or let him know I am not interested.

unfortunately, I have no-disclosure agreements with all my clients. However, I would be happy to put proposal that will outline actually how we would market you products with a few examples of placement blah blah blah blah da da so on and so forth

Yeah not a good idea for adult on twitter/facebook. But other than that why not? Political works. What else you got?

I didn't get the non-disclosure comment.

EDIT: Do you have a plan for driving traffic? Tools?

Set up a plan and give them a little test run. ie: 10k hits or wtf ever they are wanting.

I have a few marketing campaigns that I have going with a partner. We both signed non-disclosures for ALL components of the campaign. My partner is a stickler on the non disclos. I try to keep religeon and politics out of my business ventures. I don't want to rub a customer with a 70k check the wrong way. My political beliefs can sometimes get a bit abrasive...as you well know.

Appreciate the advice. Even though he wants verified results now to show him....this might work and looks to be my only choice.

Yeah, simply tell him you are non-disclosure with all of your clients.

On top of that give him a brief rundown on what you will do, put a professional looking proposal towards him. If you are confident in your services organise a payment plan. Tell him he won't pay if you cant deliver XXXX.

Take all the risk away for the client and theyll have nothing to lose by signing up with you.

I can tell you from a lot of experience that clients can be a pain, not all but a lot of them. I have ran a business in the public relations and social media industry for around 4 yrs now and that is why I am starting to do some affiliate marketing.

As far as to show this client what you can do I would show some past examples of things you have worked on in which you do not have a non-discomfiture even if it is politics or religion. If I was hiring someone I would not care who they marketed even if it was different than my beliefs because I am paying for results not to have them represent my beliefs.

Is this client looking for new leads or mainly just branding?

If he is seeking new leads, offer to generate a few for free as a test so he can view the quality of your work.

^ What he said.

The guy probably won't even take you up on it. It's all a game. He wants to see if you're going to crumble and fold when he asks for proof of results. You can certainly go the NDA route but that alone will possibly make him think you're hiding something.

I'd use the NDA and then counter with sending the guy some free leads... is it worth your time and 70k to secretly set up a PPC campaign for his jewelry store, for example, in 2-3 days, and send him tons of free leads, then stop the campaign and tell him "had enough yet?" He'll be asking "where do I sign?"

And if he spots the ad up, who cares? Tell him that's how your company drives traffic.

If the leads wind up crappy, well, you're fucked. I would throw in 10 of your friends to sign up and buy something to get the quality of the leads up. Hell, buy your girlfriend some bling. You're gonna be a rich man.

And if you don't get the sale, you'll at least get laid that night.

I've got an idea ditch the clients and sell affiliate shit :D

Typically clients are a pain in the ass.

Client work offsets fluctuating affiliate earnings for me.
Client work is also easier when you target the right people...

UPDATE: I offered this chick access to my visitor stats which show tons of social traffic and I offered free traffic from a new site that I just developed. I also offered to show her 1099's, which would more than prove that I can drive traffic and make money from it.

I sent everthing over and she called me ready to sign a contract. Two hours later she called saying that she was no longer interested. She stated that she had searched on Google, facebook and twitter and didnt find me. She said that because she couldnt find me...I must be a spammer!...LOL...I fuckin slammed the phone on her ignorant ass and will never entertain the idea of taking on a customer again.
