SOPA is dead!

I read it some minutes ago but did not take seriously since it's from mashable and the news was not found in any freshly reporting news sources.
Marshable wrote a lot about SOPA these days for traffic whoring.

well did you actually try to research it then? Cause Usa Today, washinton post, wall street journal... are all reporting the same thing.

While it may be dead for now these kinds of bills have a bad habit of coming up again after the noise dies down. I am sure the movie and music companies are still spending a lot of cash to try and push this through and are not ready to give up just yet.

It will be back. It will have a different name, and contain compromises.

If anything, the state learned not to overreach. Scale down, set a basic framework, and build upon it over the next decade.

They will not abandon this legislation.

Yeah your right. It'll show up in some defense bill that it would be seen as political suicide to vote against. This is how it normally works.

Wait and see what happens, it'll be Facebook Beacon all over again.

Abandon it amongst the outrage, rebrand it, drip the same shit back in slowly, nobody knows, everyone remains ignorant and happy.

No denying that it will be back, but tech sector is going to start pumping a lot more money into lobbying to hopefully keep the most horrific parts out. I foresee something like OPEN passing within the next year or so though.

Jesus you guys are buzz kills. You do know that enjoying and appreciating these moments extends your lifespan, right?

No one is under any illusion that any of this is over. It will never be over. Just one more battle won in the war of inalienable rights.

I'm stoked Ron Wyden got a lot of love today. I've been a big supporter of his since he opposed estamp.
Incase any people doesn't remember the senate actually tried to impose a tax on sending emails back in the late 90s. They were so ignorant they actually thought since emails has the word mail in it, it would be possible to put a tax on a virtual message much like a stamp on a snail mail The only reason it didn't pass is because some experts came in at the 11th hour to let them know it wouldn't be technologically possible to enforce.
