Next week I'll be leaving this tiny little town in western NY where I've spent the past ~9 months. I'll spend about a month on the road, largely living out of my car and sleeping outdoors or couchsurfing, on the way to my new residence in Austin, TX.

The goal is to avoid hotels almost everywhere I stop, though I do plan on getting a place to stay in Myrtle Beach and Nashville. The trip will move at a very causal pace, and it could take me multiple days to get to each city, so I'll generally have plenty of time to scope out everything in between.

With thanks to dewchugr I now have a loose idea of what I'd like to do/see, which I'd like to share with you, and hopefully some of you can help me fill in the gaps of my itinerary. Better yet, it'd be great to meet some of you faggots in person, grab a drink, and talk about making that internet monies. :rasta:

So here it goes:

DC to Southern Virginia: I'll be spending a week plus in DC with family and getting fucked up with friends - no help needed here. In Virginia I'd like to spend a long weekend hiking and simply exploring the area. I used to live in NoVa but know practically nothing about the rest of the state. Anyone have recommendations for sights, campgrounds, etc in the area?

VA - coastal NC - Myrtle Beach: Will be driving through NC rather quickly and looking to hike briefly along the way. Campsite/trail suggestions? Was going to spend some time around Kitty Hawk, but probably won't have time now.

Then to Myrtle Beach where we'll be meeting up with a friend who is stationed in SC. Am not expecting a whole lot from this leg of the trip, just some bro time.

SC - Asheville - The Smokys
I'm then shooting back up through NC to Asheville, where I plan to spend a day or two. Biltmore house sounds pretty cool, but I'm not trying to spend $30+ to see a big ass house. What else is happening around Asheville?

Next, I'm off to the Smokys in TN, possibly with a brief stop in the KY portion of the range. I'd like to spend at least a few days hiking, before moving onto the next leg of the trip. What trails and parks are the best to check out around here?

Smokys - Nashville - TX

Then I'm off to Nashville for a night or two, possibly with a sidetrip to Mammoth Caves just north into Kentucky. I'll just be bumming around the city for the most part. I wasn't too fond of Memphis last time i passed through, so it will likely be a straight shot to Dallas/Houston where I'll be spending time with old friends while I shop for apartments in Austin.

Arkansas was quite uneventful last time I passed through, so I have no expectations. Maybe spend some time in the Ozarks?

fin.

So what do you guys think? Are there obvious stops I haven't planned for? Suggestions for bars in this random assortment of cities? Things I should see/do?

I feel as if I'm a bit too close to the whole thing to make any real decisions, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
