Got a 4 hour train ride on Friday and another one on Sunday back home. Got the aforementioned setup, and would like to hit some work on the trip. Anyone have experience tethering this (or android 1.5 phones in general) setup?

Preferably I would like to not have to root my phone...

Or if you don't use PDANet, on the phone, run the internet connection sharing app when its hooked up to your computer with a usb cable or paired with bluetooth. With the cable it connects automatically, with bluetooth you have to click connect as access point.

k, tried out pdanet last night, works like a fuckin champ. I bought the license today for it, it's only 19 bucks and allows bluetooth tethering and all that other fancy shit. Very cool app, thanks guys

You can also root your Hero, toss on a 2.1 firmware (just released by sprint yesterday) and wifi tether for free.

Dude fuck ya didn't see this yesterday! Don't even need to root my phone. Sweet. Kinda wish I didn't buy pdanet now but if it works with 2.1 still its a great place for fresh ips ( hint hint )

Been using pda net for years, first on my old Q and now on my Driods, really cant find a better ap for tethering it always works and always gives your a fresh ip pool

Yeah, so I got 2.1 installed on my Hero last night, it definitely is faster and nicer, but it looks like Sprint is blocking the tethering option (it shows up when I plug my phone into USB, just throws an error when trying to connect).

So luckily, that pdanet purchase wasn't a total waste. Loving the fresh IP's though, very handy
