Wife and I are getting away for a few days in March. We're basically going to be there from Thursday/Friday until Tuesday. The kids will not be along. The computer will.

The problem is that I have no idea which hotel to stay at.

New York Marriott Marquis?

The Benjamin?

The W? (What the fuck kind of name is the "W"?)

Or the Crowne Plaza?

We were going to do the Crowne Plaza thing, but now she's not so sure.

Anyone in New York or who recently visited that can point us in the right direction?

Maybe with a "must-see" restaurant close by to get us started?

damn 200 + per night..i rather pay 70 buck a night in Jersey city and spend the different on other stuff

If you can afford it the W lex is good. Perfect location and a nice hotel :) Enjoy your stay

marriot marquis is fairly nice. All NYC hotels are overpriced though for what you get + you have to shell out another $50+ to park.

Wife was saying that the W Times Square was just recently renovated. Did the renovations do anything worthwhile?

And Times Square is not somewhere you'd want to stay?

We aren't driving anywhere. Taxis or on foot. I'll drive in LA.

dude, you should book from me: shameless plus www.newyorktripplanner.com :)

The majority of hotel reservations on my site are to Waldorf Astoria, Marriott Marquis, Milford Plaza(kinda dumpy IMO), Hilton New York, Roosevelt and Radisson Lexington.

hilton is pretty nice - stayed there a couple of times while visiting NYC good location too!

I'm a Starwood person... Westin Times Square is awesome. Got a free upgrade to a 3 room corner suite once.

If you're going for the traditional kinda stuffy luxury Midtown hotel, I'd take the Waldorf or the Ritz on Central Park. The IM Pei Four Seasons is pretty slick too.

Downtown, the W @ Union Square is a safe bet. But for something a little more interesting, The Mercer is a safe bet and good name drop. The Bowery Hotel throws great parties, and the Tribeca Grand and Hotel Gansevoort are (used to be?) celebrity haunts.

Last time I was in NY I stayed at the Four Seasons.

Couldn't have been happier with a hotel. We arrived at 8am just to drop off our bags, check in was 3pm or so -- they checked us in right away. The concierge arranged reservations and tickets for everything we asked for. I don't remember why, but breakfast was free everyday. We ordered off the menu and would have spent $60-80 every morning (I'm a pig with free food).

If I went back, I would definitely stay there again.

hilton new york, hotel for aff sum east, is $300 a night. steep. anyone know a hotel that's a bit cheaper and close by.
