I am working with a new affiliate program where:

  1. The cookies are set for 30 days to the first affiliate who brings in the visitor
  2. Most of the active affiliates cookie-stuff on their landing pages.
I am currently promoting via AdWords and the CPC for general keywords is in the $2 to $4 range. So any traffic lost to another affiliate cookie-stuffing costs me a bit of money.

I've recently been frustrated because about half of my clicks do not register with the affiliate network; other affiliates cookie-stuff the visitors before they arrive at my landing page.

Meanwhile, I am at least in positions 3-5 on the search results for both general and long tail phrases.

I find that bidding on general keywords means that, although I can get to a CLEAN visitor first, a small percentage of them actually click through to the merchant. I surmise that many of these visitors are in "information seeking" mode rather than "buy" mode.

On the other hand, bidding on long tail keywords means that many of them may have searched general first and clicked on a cookie stuffing affiliate link, before refining to a long tail search and getting to my page.

Can any WF members share any tips for scenarios like this? Much appreciated.

Two options:

1. Stuff just like the other affiliates are doing -or-
2. Alert the networks you're working with and let them deal with the affiliates themselves. If that doesn't solve the problem, try contacting the advertiser directly, which honestly may be a better way to go anyway if you're doing a lot of volume and your quality is decent.
