You may have heard the term 'Superbug' in the media used to describe strains of bacteria that are resistant to ALL antibiotics. I don't need to explain why this is bad, very bad. It means going to back to when simple infections would kill you. Old people wouldn't stand a chance in a hospital. Young people could die from a number of simple infections like UTIs.

Western companies have made close to zero progress in developing new antibiotics in the last 40 years. This is because of two main issues: The inhibently expensive testing required and second the greed of companies, who would much rather treat made up psycological 'diseases'.

Luckily, the rest of the world doesn't give a shit about the decadent west. Chinese researchers have now found a possible revolutionary antibiotic in panda blood: Giant Panda blood offers possible superbug solution (Wired UK)

Not only will it kill resistant drugs, it will also do it in an hour, which is 6 times faster than normal.

Unless the western pharma assasinates/buys outs/corrupt this research, we may all live to be older than 50.

But I think this signifies more than pure coincidence. This is one of the increasing examples of China taking the role as the primary driving force in research.

I speculate that unless the west gets rid of all its parasites in politics and lobbies, China will be where new breakthrougs will be made. And we should be happy about it. It's good to know that even when the west has dropped the ball, there are still some people not giving a damn and making progress.

evidence has no place here, the west is falling, didn't you get the memo?

Just to be clear, you think the primary reason modern commercial medicine hasn't found a cure for MRSA and other resistant superbugs that would save lives while having a ready-made and waiting market to purchase such is because their GREED prevents them from doing so? But luckily, CHINA's crack state-run medical industry has the necessary societal benefits goal firmly in hand, so they'll lovingly take over where the greedy West has failed, for the benefit of all mankind of course?

hmm....interesting viewpoint.

Yes, it's not profitable to develop anti-biotics for the big pharma companies due to tough regulation and short nature of the treatment.

China on the other hand spends gov money so they don't really care about profit, since their income is tax spending. This is actually one point where government spending is a good idea.

you got damn commie

There go pandas :(

Anyway, illness/infection is an illusion. You can choose to either accept it or reject it. I reject all illnesses in my mind and I have not been sick for the past 5 years ... at all.

Hey, fancy doing an experiment? I'll brew up a nice bacterial broth, you can drink it and see if the all in the mind theory holds up.

If that works, we can move onto more serious stuff like injecting you with malaria / typhoid.

And if that works... the Nobel prize will be ours for the taking. Let's do this thing!
