I was prepped my whole life by family/friends/coaches/band mates etc. to either play pro football or be the next Eddy Van Halen. At one point in my life I excelled at both but both fell through my grasp.

Sure, I make good money between AM and offline business but every now and then I feel that I should either be playing guitar for (insert your favorite band here) or playing middle linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys.

What about you?. Did any of you guys ever "KNOW" that you would end up at a certain place but didn't for whatever reason?

Yep, I coulda been a Muay Thai champion if I'd only kept training, never lost a bout either.

I'd like to do music eventually, but I agree. A lot of times, our lives don't turn out exactly the way we planned. I think that's because we can't foresee what'll get thrown at us. However, I also believe we can get pretty close to our goals if we remain focused.

Why not do both, and join a band?

What's keeping you from getting back into it? I train 4 nights a week with a mixed martial arts club and it's fuckin awesome. I am even thinking about competing soon. If you love it..go for it before you it's too late.

popeye, are you doing AM full time?

I own several payday loan companies and tanning salons and do AM as well. I was doing AM long before I ever opened a brick and mortor business. Most of my AM income, comes from web properties that I have developed over the last 7 years. I got lucky and was first in on a niche that has really been hot these last several years.

Yeh, I grew up thinking that I wanted to work for Microsoft, or later Google, but I did work for Microsoft as an intern, and other than the wicked awesome pay ($6k / mo lulz) and the benefits (company shuttles, kegerator down the hall, lots of xboxes to play) I realized that a salary-based cubicle job was NOT where I wanted to be. Eventually, they interviewed me for a full-time, which I definitely would have taken (first year salary: $76k. after two internships? $84k), but fortunately for me, I wasn't right for any of the teams with openings :)

I just found out what AM is 6 months ago, but I'm sure I'll never go back to MS. They asked me to try again in August; I may take the free flight to Seattle, but I'll definitely skip the interviews.

Popeye... life a'int over, you can still do those things. For me personally, I see AM as a great stepping stone (money) to get where I really want to be (editing movies).

1. Take the job
2. Leak inside info
3. ????
4. Profit

On a serious note I felt like I should have been in professional baseball. Sadly growing up my family was too big for me to be very involved in sports (Oldest of 13 - save the jokes, heard em all) so I never got the chance. I settle for being a big fan and playing softball from time to time.

Funny thing is, I always thought I'd be an entrepreneur or inventor. I wanted to invent the flying car when I was a kid. Then I took a desk job and that's where I've been for the past 12 years because it pays so damn well.

I've been working in AM for about 3 years now, and I'm about to start a full time IT consulting job working on projects mostly for Uncle Sam. I'm continuing my AM stuff in my spare time (why stop at just one salary?), and I'll see what happens after that.

Always thought I would be some kind of artist.

All through high school all I did was draw. I had notebooks full of illustrations, probably why I barely scraped by.

Being an immigrant I got a lot of pressure to make money. Ended up going to school getting a Econ degree and taking an office job for 3 years.

AM fulfills my creative need and pays the bills:

I Paint... landing pages
I Write... ad copy
I Dream... of new ways to market
I Move People... to buy things

I am an internet artist or maybe a "internist"

I wanted to be a Speleologist. Went to school for it for years, only to realize I would rather do it as a hobby in the end. Every job I have ever had with a boss has ended up being something I hate. Since I couldn't stand the thought of hating Speleology one day, I dropped out of school and started working for myself. I can honestly say I'm 100% completely satisfied with my life.

I'd still like to be a professional storm chaser though...

I probably thought I'd be a day trader or web designer. I have no idea what I want to be anymore...

Was a huge artist through high school and college (nothing like me ever came out of my small city) but alas, wasn't willing to pay 20k+ a year to go to the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. I got in (and they only take 600 some odd student a year, and expect half of them to drop out after the first year).

I've been into business since I was little. I always had a lot of hobbies and interests, but owning a business was always #1, and the only difference being that I imagined it would be a successful offline business.

When I was a kid (age 8-12) I used to build very complex toy roller coasters and small model thrill rides out of knex, scrap metal, plastic tubing and anything else I could get my hands on. I wanted to be an engineer and build rides for six flags and other amusement parks around the world when I was older.

I remember the summer when I was 11, a friend of mine told me about this playground equipment that was getting thrown out down the street from my house. long story short I got a hold of the playground's largest plexiglass slide, disassembled it and re-built it into the tree in my backyard and added a hose so it became a water slide. It became the thing to do in my neighborhood until summer ended.

Maybe someday when I'm not so money hungry I'll go back to school so that I can build rides or something else.
