So my internet went down for a whole day and I realized that I need a backup. I was thinking of getting a Verizon hot spot, but it's like 50 bucks a month, not a big deal, but it is only 5GBs. I was thinking of getting a new phone if I can tether it. But I have no clue about this as I don't have a smartphone.

So I have verizon phone service. Anybody have any experience or any thoughts on this? Try and tether an iphone or android, or just get a hot spot or 4g card or what? Any other options?

I still have an Iphone 3G as my primary cell phone. I jailbroke it and installed a simple tethering app and now when I'm out and about and need internet access I just have to plug it in and turn tethering on. It's simple as fuck and doesn't cost me anything extra on top of my data plan. Supposedly AT&T has caught some people doing this but I don't see that happening as long as you don't overdo it.

I have a T-Mobile android, all their androids come with the ability to wireless tether, use it all the time.
