Most people have smart phones these days. Im thinking about putting a campaign together to a targeted group, with a targeted message.
I'm not trying to leach of free information, but is there anything I should be aware of (laws). Also is there a good service for this - say Im doing 1-5k messages a day. I have seen some free sites that do this, but not sure how much volume they can handle.

Hope Im not outing anyone.

I'm not really familiar with the laws, but they do exist and from what I understand they have some teeth. Your best bet would be to contact a lawyer that has experience with this. I can recommend Robert from Coast Law Group.

A lot of people don't have unlimited texting. If I had a limited amount of texts, I'd be pretty pissed if I got a text that put me over my limit and I got charged because of spam.

Not sure what the laws are, but you would probably start bringing a lot of unwanted attention to yourself from the phone carriers if they received enough complaints about unwanted charges from their customers.

I better do a little more research.
I'm not looking to spam just any number. Maybe only Plumbers in Houston this week.
I received a text a couple weeks ago. What it had was an opt out "reply endnow to stop further offers" This could be it.

open rate of a spam email - 50% or less
open rate of a text message - 99%-100%

the major telcos do have filters in place but they are really weak and can be bypassed with ease.

also they have unlimited $ and great lawyers and will sue the shit out of you or the sponsor you're using. The problem they run into is that some ppl have to pay .10 or so per text message they receive to you will have 100s if not 1000s of pissed off ppl complaining on you to the telco, sponsor, fcc, ftc, etc.

;) have fun promoting and not being paid if you SMS spam to unsolicited numbers. better be based outside of the US.

Used to work really well in one Country, until the guvment wised up a few months back... Thumbdrives with preloaded numbers and software to blast FTW.

For US, it is a little risky as you get charged for incoming messages as well after a certain limit, or before in come plans.., and you piss off a lot of people. Also it is covered under CANSPAM
FCC rules prohibit sending unwanted text messages to your wireless phone number if they are sent using an autodialer, or if you have placed that number on the national Do-Not-Call list.

Jeffrey can pitch in more as this is FCC territory.. :-)

Too many laws regarding SMS. I found one network that allows SMS but I felt it was a waste collecting the phone # to send messages. Maybe I'm lazy and making excuses to try and tackle it.
