The sound is cleaned up a ton in this video but it's SICK - all 4 band members know they're "on". I saw Pantera 3 times in 94-96 and frankly they sounded like garbage every time.

Hehe, yeah, Mustaine tends to rub people up the wrong way.

I must have seen Slayer 20+ times over the years, just missed out on seeing the "Reign in Blood" gig in England last year. They didn't announce they were going to do it and they played it all through the day after I saw them :/ All good though as most of the rest of there stuff is awesome anyway, and I saw then touring Reign when it was first released.

And lol at SoD, don't hear them mentioned much, I got Live at Budokan when it first came out, just brilliant.

Great thread. Love all of the big 4, seen all of them a few times too.

For single best album... has to be Reign in Blood. Closely followed by Rust and Ride or Puppets. Probably Puppets.

Live I prefer Metallica. Slayer are great but if you've seen them once you've seen them a hundred times imo and their arrogance pisses me off. 'deth are awesome too but just not quite as engaging. Anthrax fucking kick ass live, I'd rank them above Megadeth in fact, but depends on the line up.

I also love death metal, and I rank Obituary as one of my all time favourite live bands. Tore the house down utterly. Saw Decapitated too (with Sauron and Vitek, RIP) and the talent those guys had was unreal. Winds of Creation live ftw.

A couple from Megadeth's latest album Endgame.

This song is based on a true story about a guy named Shawn Nelson who after a long series of misfortunes snapped, stole a tank, went on a rampage and was eventually shot dead. Great fken song! Album version has more solo's.

1,320 refers to the length of a nitro drag strip, 1320 feet.
This song has a massive dueling solo section towards the end... crazy stuff

I love how Megadeth's songs are about something, Slayer is good but it's all just evil themed crap. Metallica are guilty of this too, except they're not evil themed they're just kinda vague. Hetfield just throws in lyrics that rhyme, nothing with substance.

i.e from Death Magnetic the song 'The Day That Never Comes', one of the lines is "Love is a 4 letter word, here in this prison". The fuck does that mean?? I love Metallica, but Megadeth's songs have a whole other level to them.

7. Endgame (About the new world order, specifically a bill signed by Bush that lets the gov lock up citizens in detention centers)

9. Head Crusher (about a medieval torture machine that crushed heads in a vise)
10. How The Story Ends (inspired by Sun Tzu's Art of War)

Obituary are a great band, seen them live as well. I don't know how you can still like Metalliwank, unless you are just on about there older stuff.
 
To many great songs from great bands to pick a few favorites. iron maiden, ozzy, black sabath, kiss, ramstein, scorpions were good etc, etc. There were a lot of bands back in the 70s and 80s that were considered heavy metal that might not be today that were really good. I think Aerosmith was one of the top "metal" bands of the 70s, but now they would be considered more hard rock than metal, and about the best band ever, AC/DC.

A few older songs the younger crowd here might not be familiar with.
