This domain owner made a screensaver type thing and is selling 'stars' for $100 bucks.

I doubt they'd be able to sell $1m worth, but they've got buyers to stump up $2.1k so far...

I think a lot of marketers fail to realize it's the buzz/hype that makes a concept successful. Not just ripping off something else, modding it a little, then launching it.

Too bad it won't do anything for people that bought stars. Sure it might get them a little traffic, but Google won't see the link, so it's not going to help them for SEO purposes. Imagine is does get a ton of buzz and backlinks, OOPS, the advertisers just got fucked.

Annoying page anyhow.

These things are so odd. But seriously, more power to them if they can still cause a stir at this point. If nothing else, good on 'em for that.

She made $2100 from it in under a week already.. may catch on. Maybe not to $1M, but she may end up banking $25k on it.

atleast it is a unique idea from the pixel craze. Either way even if it isnt a mil they will make some bank.

Don't underestimate them though.
They're using some spammy forum marketing, so they're bound to catch some sales that way.

And $100 for a tiny graphic on a script is pretty decent.

You can bet once they bank at least $10-20k, they'll start selling the script too.

The idea is good, and people will buy into it (they already have), but it's still pointless.

Would you pay $110 for a link on a page that has ZERO PR, and rel="no follow" on their links? No, because you get nothing for it. Unless that page starts getting an assload of traffic, it is absolutely worthless to the people that spent their money on it.
