The NSA Is Building the Country’s Biggest Spy Center

Oh shit! I better hurry up and move to a 3rd world shithole full of transvestites!

Or, you know, not. I literally have nothing to hide (and if I did, it's still easy enough to avoid any kind of tracking).

Like, insanely easy.

The primary purpose is to store data and to crack the older encryption technology to gain access to the mountains of info they have collected over the years. From my understanding they dont have the technology to crack the latest encryption methods but the data that was encrypted 10 or 15 years ago is much easier to decrypt and can give a lot of insight into various people and groups (terrorists..ie.. foreign & american citizens)

Don't worry, they are just recording everything you do for archival purposes.

If you conform, obey and stay completely out of trouble like a good sheep they probably will never have a reason use the information in those archives against you.

Also... if you want to have some fun... just start encrypting large documents and sending them out over the internet. IBM's annual report, an assortment of novels from Project Gutenberg, old out of print textbooks, etc. in multiple parts.

If everyone sent out four or five large encrypted files once each week it would keep them backlogged for years and years.

We should start a club.

Basically what FastB said.

How do you propose you securely send and receive texts without the other person also setting up encryption? Or make phone calls? You could use VOIP but if the person your talking to is using a normal phone its also pointless. Most of what it takes to communicate securely requires the other person to also be involved.

Plus, it's not really a question of whether you have anything to hide or not, it's a question of do you want it recorded and linked to you for the rest of your life? Care to let me monitor your location, phone calls, text messages, emails, purchases etc 24/7? Reading that horribly embarrassing way you tried to get back with your ex or that Japanese tentacle porn site you once signed up to?

We live at the first point in time when what we do and say is getting stored and linked to you forever. Up until now this has never happened in history before and things like this don't get better, they only get worse.

...that Japanese tentacle porn site you once signed up to?

Ever notice that it's only people that do this kind of thing that are really worried?

Just because YOU'RE into Japanese tentacle porn doesn't mean everyone else is.

And just to be clear: I'm not exactly stoked about this shit either. But I'm also not very concerned. Because until there's a massive civilian upheaval, there's nothing that can be done so why spend my time losing hair over it? I take the necessary precautions (in my case, very little, if any) to keep what I want private, private and go on with my life.

Whining about it on a forum will do nothing.

Writing a congressman will do even less.

Protesting in front of a government building will only get you branded as a fucking retard (and probably thrown in jail).

It is the way it is. It's not ideal but until people take to the streets I'm looking out for the welfare of me and mine before I put my dick on the line for the rest of the sheeple.

It's really quite simple: STAY OFF THE GODDAMN PHONE if you're talking about shit you want to stay truly private. Smart wiseguys have been avoiding the phone since there WERE phones for this very reason.
