I've been a regular on this forum for about a year, reading, posting occasionally and picking up great ideas on how to promote anything and everything online.

But the only thing about "affiliate marketing" I don't quite get is the constant complaining about lead shaving, scrubbing and affiliates being surprised when they get fucked over by a shady network or advertiser. If you are promoting an offer that in essence constantly charges an idiots CC until they cancel which is fucked to begin with, or you're sending lots of traffic to an offer at a network that is run by people who don't give a flying fuck about you... Why the hell are affiliates so surprised when the advertiser/network decides to cheat them too?

I mean really, whats the difference between 1000 idiots that have been raped by a re-bill offer and the affiliate that hasn't been paid for promoting the crap to those 1000 people? NOTHING.

You can promote products & services that pay better, are reputable and that have been around for more than a few months.
But no, it can't be that simple...

Last I checked, most reputable aff networks' TOS did not say "will fuck you over." Doing something shady/against the terms of the network or advertiser and not getting paid is one thing, but when you aren't doing anything wrong, you should get paid.

But I don't think anyone is surprised getting shaved/scrubbed these days.

QFT. Even if you make $100,000/day with a network and they pay for your nights out at the strip clubs and limo rides, you should always be suspect. Trust no one. :)

but yea, as blue buddha pretty much said, profiting is a role of an affiliate network, so unless you're dealing directly w/ an advertiser expect to get fucked with just the tip.

The difference is that the people signing up for the offers get upset because their CC's are charged and they didn't know about it because they didn't read the TOS. The affiliates get upset because they did their job and they didn't get paid for their work. That is a huge difference. It's not just a matter of due diligence, there is often no way to tell at all if an advertiser or a network is legit until you try it, and even if you are half expecting to get burned that doesn't mean it won't sting. Money is money, you are going to miss it either way.

A significant majority of the business being done by affiliates, advertisers and networks is honest, relatively problem free and profitable for all involved. If everyone spent all their time fucking over everyone else, this business wouldn't exist.

The reality is that you don't hear about that stuff because the people doing well are busy doing well and not sharing all their good experiences on boards. Plus, it's kinda boring to read "Hey, I ran an offer. I made money. I got paid on time".

People like the dirt and threads like that will always get more action and more participation. Same reason that the nightly news mostly reports on the bad shit. Same reason that the Hydra thread gets 5 times more play than the "favorite network" thread does.

So while all the negative posts make it look like IM is nothing more than a giant fuck-over session, the reality is the opposite.
