He thought money was his God, and his business was the church.

The ending of that movie kinda fucked with me for years... Not that I wouldn't want to beat a religious zealot to death with a bowling pin myself, but the way his life was so empty and meaningless by the end made me more resolved in my marriage and want to do things that matter other than accumulate wealth.

The way he treated his son makes me want to beat him to death. Good for the kid competing with him like that.

Daniel Day Lewis is an absolute beast. The mother fucker stays in character off set. Can you picture this dude acting like Bill the Butcher for months straight during filming. Brilliant shit.

Excellent movie, with Day Lewis really carrying it on his shoulders. Can you imagine the same effect with any other actor? He may well become the greatest actor of all time if he delivers a few more performances like this one. He seems to be only getting better with age, with TWBB marking his peak to date so far.

Although the movie itself was thought provoking and excellent, Day Lewis' preparation and performance made me reevaluate the way I pursue business and life in my own world. His commitment to excellence, to absolute focus and passion for refining his craft to unseen heights among a sea of cookie cutter actors is breathtaking. It really makes reconsider how I not only do business but everything else in my life as well.

If you look at the character he played on screen and his own off screen persona you'll notice a similar patter that I would attribute to both of their fictional and real successes respectively; focus and commitment. It's incredible what man can achieve with the power of his focus. Unfortunately, with such incredible single minded focus it becomes easy to loose sight of all the other aspects that make life worth living.
