I have the opportunity to buy two lightly used, 8 month old Lenovo laptops and not sure if they're a good deal or not:

Lenovo S440 Touch

$800

i7 processor
8GB ram
500 GB HDD
1600x900 screen

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro

$850

i7 processor
8GB ram
512 SSD
3200x1800 screen

The 2nd one maybe, that's a hot resolution. But you're not saving much off the new price of around $999.

Yoga 2 Pro with those specs is closer to $1500 where I'm at now and the S440 is $1300.

The Yoga 2 has a SSD, which will make it way faster than any HDD computer. Plus it is 4x the resolution of the other one.

Ok, I might buy both or none, doesn't have to be either/or.

The Yoga has a glare screen though, that's not comfortable to work at for long periods and it reflects sunlight. It also gets poor reviews for its keyboard because it turns into a tablet. Doesn't seem like a work laptop to me, though I like the specs.

The S440 is a typical Thinkpad with good keyboard and matte screen. Probably the cheapest current 'real' Thinkpad.

meh, any reason you like lenovo?

3200 x 1800 resolution but the screen is 13"..... is that an important feature to you?

The GPU actually running that resolution is what, integrated?

2ghz max cpu....more than meh...

10 point touch is cool if you actually have a use for it. Playing mobile games or something you'd do with a tablet.

Just my thoughts.

This is brand new for under $1200 and would be a beast: MSI GT Series GT70 DominatorPro-888 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4800MQ (2.70GHz) 32GB Memory 1TB HDD 384GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M 8GB 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Newegg.com

But prices are currently falling for the lower end gaming laptops and in 6 weeks the above laptop will be $999.

^ I dont play games breh, it is strictly for work, netflix and wickedfire.

I like Lenovo only the Thinkpad series, because of Matte screen and great keyboard. It's made for working, looking at screen for hours and typing a lot of words in a day.

The chicket (sp) keyboard on the S440 is sick. Can't say about the Yoga's keyboard. Also, the yoga has no trackpoint, no point in buying a lenovo without a trackpoint. That shit's the bomb.

I bought the S440. Pretty sweet, nice casing, not sure I like the movable touchpad, but keyboard is awesome and screen is good. Only problem is Win 8, will have to install Win 7.

Now I have two Thinkpads, but I'll probably go Mac sometime in the next year or two. Seems like Lenovo users are dissapearing every day, even among those who before used to hate on Mac. It's like smoking, we're becoming pariah.

I just switched from a Lenovo to a Macbook Pro. Even though there is a good possibility of me primarily running Ubuntu instead of OSX, I'm happy to pay twice the price just for the hardware. Non-retina display is for peasants.

I just bought the Lenovo Y70 touch and it is beast. Best laptop I've ever owned and recommend the hell out of it.
