Is anyone from/familiar with Austin? Because I don't know shit.

I've been lazing in a resort outside of Austin since Saturday - going in for an early dinner tonight with a group and then will be looking for a place for drinks/Monday Night Football, etc.

Have a quick meeting downtown tomorrow, too, then free to leave Wed AM. (Could extend trip for a day or two pending outcome of tomorrow's mtg.)

I hear great things but again, could probably use a suggestions to ensure I don't end up in at a Chili's having babybacks with the hoi polloi on Peasant's Night.
 


i haven't done it, but always wanted to check out franklin bbq & competitors.
 
I live here, have for 3 years, this place is the tits. What kind of food are you looking for? I could tell you about 3 places to go for any style of food, or even if you just want a specific kind of food, like pizza, I got you.

What kind of drinks? Cocktails, wine bar, craft beer? If you haven't explored the Texas craft beer selection it's immense. We've got some amazing cocktail bars as well.

my sis's husband recently had an opp to take a position in austin, and i kept urging them to take it based on what i've heard about the joint. good to see a local chime in to confirm.

My friends like Franklin BBQ. I'm a vegetarian, so I have no idea. Austin is a great place to be a vegetarian, though.

If I could recommend anything food-wise, I'd say get your fill of tacos. I love Torchy's - fuck the haters - but there are tons of great taco places.

Also, check out Frank. Gourmet sausages for the discriminating gay webmaster and I imagine they have a beer selection (idk, I don't drink).

Halcyon is right around the corner from Frank, and also gay club adjacent (all the gay clubs are on 4th street).

Coming from the Philly (Bucks County) I'm not impressed with the pizza in Austin. The good pizza is way over priced. Actually, I think Costa Rica has better pizza than Austin, probably cause they actually have Italians in CR, unlike Austin.

Also, Austin has very few Russians, Jews, or Russian-Jews. Weird. And for such a liberal city filled with social justice warriors, the blacks and whites are extremely segregated.

Tons of hot girls, though. There's lots of cool places on east 6th (on the other side of 35) if you wanna hang out with late-20's hipster chicks. Or hit up Guadalupe if you're looking for 19-22 college girls.

I think Barton Springs is still hopping, I'd definitely recommend going there for a quick swim. Cold spring water swimming pool, big green hill filled with chicks, topless girls allowed (but often hairy), Barton Springs is pretty dope. Obviously, there's more of a crowd in spring/summer if you're looking to socialize, but check it out anyway.

And yeah, people in Austin are extremely approachable, so don't hesitate to make friends when you're hanging out around town. Seriously, most people here are super friendly and will stop what they're doing to talk to your for half and hour.

I mostly haunt coffee shops (actually in Flightpath right now), but it sounds that won't be a part of your trip... anyway, tons of great coffee shops. If you find yourself near Bennu, Cherrywood, or Epoch, grab some cold-brew coffee and talk to hot chicks for a little while.

idk man, I hope all this helps you come up with some ideas. If it were Friday/Saturday I'd say hit up Kingdom... it's pretty much the only club that brings in good tech-house DJs. I guess Lanai plays tech-house too, but I never go, it's always just local DJs.

Actually, if you wanna be a complete fag, just take a Segway tour.
