Third Time is the Charm? Help me Succeed this Time!

Hello, I've always been interested in creating websites and affiliate marketing. I have tried two sites in the past but I never get very far. I think my main issue is trying to do too much stuff at once and then none of it really works out.

My main hangup both times have been site design. I want a nice looking page that doesn't look like a cheap WordPress page. I am thinking about using somthing other than WordPress this time around, I know a little HTML and CSS but not enough to carry me all the way of designing a site. Is Joomla worth considering?

Also, I'm not looking to make a page that will last a few weeks before being forgotten about. I'd like to create constant content and possibly have forums or user submissions. Is this an OK away to go about it?

Also another thing that worries me is when I am working on my site and creating content/pages but it's not finished yet, does this hurt my sites ability to rank in a search engine? Would it be better to create the website and get some pages built before I point the DNS to my hosting service? Or does that not matter until I actually submit my site to search engines?

Finally, any hints, tips, motivation or wisdom you can leave me with would be great!

The designers on this board are going to disagree, but I think if you've never built a site before, or never managed to get a site to the point where it generates revenue, that design is the least of your worries.

Get something you can live with, use WP or some other CMS, and focus on generating traffic/leads/revenue.

Once you have something that works and is making a little money, you can justify getting it "right", design-wise, but I would hold off on that until you've got something working.

Thanks! I am ready to get to work, so I'll start putting my site together and generate content! Before I would feel as like "if it doesn't look exactly as I want then it's worthless" get discouraged and abandon the site.

I would reccomend using whichever CMS you have the most experience with at this exact moment in time.

Unless I'm mistaken, the goal is to make a website that produces revenue, not to learn how to use a new CMS.

Spend your time and energy on the content of your site, and on promoting that content.

The sooner you are able to see some results, the sooner you won't feel like you are pissing in the wind.

Ice, since I dont want to make new threads I'll ask here. I had a couple of websites that did generate revenue through affiliate links for computer parts ( I dont care for hiding broad niches). But pandas happened so that's that.

Right now I'm working on a finance site. I see that CPC is high 4+ so I dont know if I should focus on adsense or go about making a product. Really confused. Does a high CPC warrant looking for more traffic to increase ad clicks or make a product that seldom sells?

What I2E said. There are plenty of sites out there that turn a decent profit and have a complete shit design. It doesn't matter if you have the most beautiful, conversion optimized site in existence, if there's nothing else on the page, people won't stick around.

Publish, then publish some more, then publish some more. Once you're bringing in a little bit of cash, get a designer and get that part of your site in order. Until you're making money, it makes little sense to get hung up on design details (esp. if you aren't a designer or backed by a financier).

Step one get it functional.
Step two get and keep publishing.
Step three get revenue coming in, even if it's only a trickle.
Step four worry about everything else.

A house is built one brick, plank, and nail at a time. So are most successful businesses. Once you make your first dollar you can start worring about how to make the next dollar more efficiently. Until then, you're just stalling. And stalling means you make no dollars.

But I might be an idiot. Or maybe I'm not. Who knows.

I just had it built recently so working on getting those articles up slowly ( 1-2 a day). No linking building at all so just a handful of page views everyday from organic search. Im not buying any links for this one. I want to learn more about paid traffic to see how it deos for high CPC adsense
