Here's a tip I picked up a few months ago: try listening to white noise when working. It's very effective at blocking annoying background noise, especially if you're out working in a public place.

Note that not all 'white noise' is the same, white noise has a specific mathematical description what you assume to be white noise might not be.

Here's 12 hours of it that I find useful:

This might not be news to some people, but I only picked up the tip recently and figured it might help someone on here.

I've tired a lot of different sounds for the sake of increasing productivity.

I work out of my garage and I don't have to compete with city noises, but I do have random neighborhood clatter.

I am currently listening to these guys to help with productivity:

Seems to help, and I feel really good afterwards. Not to mention, it makes menial tasks like wordpress installations and code commenting feel epic.

I kinda hate the day noise, it's really a big problem for me. I'm more productive at the night than day but gonna try these white noises.

But all I can concentrate on is the shitty static noise, to the point I can't even HEAR MYSELF THINK!

I'm sorry, but I'd be insane within 3 months if I had that on all day while working.

had it on for about 5 min. How do you guys stand it? Stop looking for gimmicks and just get your ass to work

Honestly productivity for me is easy - just get a good playlist or remix with a higher BPM and it's good to go. The white noise never did anything but distract me.

I did the white noise thing and pretty much had same exp. as Rob.

I agree with the mix and playlist. I don't need high BPM, but I find some music that has great flow and I get into the "flow" myself and crank out a shit ton of work.

I've recently been working with neuro biofeedback from an opensource EEG project to try and improve concentration

I like to work to instrumental tracks myself. When I listen to anything with vocals sometimes ill start typing out the lyrics instead of whatever I'm working on
