Sorry, i'm gonna have to disagree....aren't we trying to get OUT of Iraq?? More training camps for fear and war mongering is slightly counterintuitive to the bigger picture of exiting Iraq. More training camps = more war, it's not that hard of an equation. Plus if you watch the video, he was offering accomodations for the marines in other locations. He was restricting them from downtown b/c of population density, and the fear it would bring to the 9-5ers getting out of work and hearing ammunition going off.

Wrong. The military trains and drills no matter if the country is at war or during peacetime. It's a nifty little thing called "operational readiness." I'm sure you would be one of the first screaming and crying if a situation arose where these Marines were needed but failed to properly execute their mission because they were not adequately trained.

Right. It doesn't matter if there was simulated firefights (with sound effects) or not, the presence would be disruptive and may convey the wrong message to the general public during a time when the military isn't always exactly popular with the masses. The Marines, Army, and Navy all have devoted facilities for urban combat training. While I imagine that they are probably pretty busy at the present, other accommodations can be made with some ingenuity (abandoned warehouses in a dilapidated manufacturing district, perhaps?).

That may be so Geek, what I was getting at is that this country is in a constant state of anticipation and needing to be "ready" for something...instead of looking inwardly and looking at how we can improve ourselves which will in turn spread outwardly. If we are always "ready" for war, we are always in a war mindset....instead of peace. I'm not saying readiness is bad, but if that is the entire premise around which this country revolves...then we are constantly in a war state of mind. What if the proposed Dept of Peace was just as strong as our current military? There needs to be a fine balance between the two, and right now there is none. Also, i'm sure as hell not relying on a marine to save my ass if some shit went down....i've been through enough on my own to save my own ass.
