So...
In our ultra-politically correct environment, there still remains one demographic that anyone can feel free to ridicule in any way, shape, or form: the American Southerner.
Case in point:
Tornadoes ripped through Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee yesterday morning. Dozens are dead. On the news this morning, they were interviewing a poor woman that just lost her house. She was white, standing in front of the pile of rubble that was her home just yesterday, and had the AUDACITY to speak with a southern accident.
And there was a rooster crowing in the background during the interview.
While talking to her, the anchors feigned sympathy. As soon as the interview was over, they were all nearly in tears laughing (albeit indirectly) at her accent and the fact that there was a rooster crowing in the background.
If she were any sort of minority, the ACLU as well as whatever applicable minority group that "represent" her would be all over this.
But she's a white southerner.
Therefore the subject of totally unchecked and entirely socially-acceptable ridicule.
Watch almost any movie or television show that portrays a character with a traditionally Southern accent. He or she will likely be one of the following:
I'm not pissing and moaning. Like most Southerners, I can tolerate the accepted marginilization of my own demographic while every other one gets preferential treatment and handled with kid gloves. I readily accept the hypocrisy.
Because I (and every other good ol' Southern boy) know - without a shadow of a doubt - that there's no one north of the Mason Dixon line that is man enough to say that shit to my face.

- Extremely stupid

- Racist

- Lazy/Overweight

- Poor/live in mobile homes

- Love NASCAR

- Crooked, dirty

- Apt to commit anal rape

- Still wear mullets

- Will kill anything

- Psychotic

- Incestuous (I went to Google for a picture and then thought, "naaaah.")
