Traffic Down 25% - Sales up 50%

For the main site I'm working on now I was targeting 'sale' keywords very hard:
Buy|Purchase|Discount|Cheap Purple Triangle Widget Online|free shipping|fast shipping|etc

I was doing quite well on the main keywords like Purple Triangle Widget until the latest google update a week or so ago. I lost 25% of traffic.

But now, my sales are up 50%. After digging, my rankings for long tail sale keywords have gone up.

Lesson taken: Focus on the sale.

I know it is a little basic, but it is hard to digest this reality and I thought I'd share with you guys. Especially with those who over-emphasize on keyword volume vs keyword sales.

Traffic isn't everything at times. I have a site that sales NFL stuff, and a keyword on soap brought in a 500 sale... doesn't make any sense.

Keep in mind that Search Network is people with their phones out. (assuming local)

Not local. Just very targeted. Specific widget name + widget type + buy|sale|cheap|fast shipping|free shipping|purchase|etc

This is what you get when you analyse your data properly. Better knowledge of how it relates to your business. Without this you're pissing in the wind a bit.
