What's the best software/method to get twitters followers right now? Free/cheap is obviously preferred. Googling gets me a ton of products, but most of them just look like crap thrown on a landing page. Suggestions?

There are programs out there, but I would not suggest using them.

Twitter will catch on pretty quickly because almost all of the programs out there follow people every so many XX seconds, and they catch on to that insta style and will ban you.

One of the easiest ways is to follow people is to go in your twitter account, go to Find Friends and then use the last tab its called "people you might like" or something and you can add 200 at a time, but don't go crazy or you will get banned.

Are you trying to use twitter as a marketing tool? I don't think people are having too good of a response from twitter blasting ad's but I could be wrong.

After fucking around with a couple of tools I decided just to do it manually. There's a follow link next to every name in a followers list and you don't need to wait for anything to load between each add so you can add a few hundred surprisingly quickly with mad clicking.
Choosing the follower list of a user who has been in the news recently seems to give a better active:inactive/spammer ratio.

I tell you what I would pay for-

(Either monthly recurring (ala webservice) or as a one off product)

a service/software that hits twitter search for a term ( ie- panda )
and would follow every user who it finds on that term. It does the search every x minutes.

But wait, there's more- If those users dont follow you back after 96 hours, it will unfollow them.
Why unfollow? When you have shit ratios people know you are spam so its important to keep it in normal limits. Also twitter will limit the # of people you can follow if you dont have a certain percentage following you back.

Another cool, but optional feature would be to do a tweet when you follow someone, like "Hey @user Thanks for enjoying pandas- I hope you will subscribe to my panda tweets"

/done

Let me know when someone makes it, Il purchase it.

What are their API limits/would that idea be a flaggable offense using their API? I looked at the Ruby API for Twitter and it seems to have all of the functions necessary to create a web service to pull this off. But you could pretty quickly max out your API limits with a bunch of users using your service.

Theoretically, you could just specify the keywords you want tracked and when someone mentions that keyword then your twitter account can start following them. Getting around rate limiting API is just a matter of spacing out the API requests, I believe it has alraedy been done by sites that let you buy followers
