Unexplained noises in Costa Rica and Kiev

I live in Costa Rica and I heard that shit. I thought it was fireworks and didn't go to look. I wish I did. My wife told me that it was all over the news.
Still no explanation. They said that sound could be made from a plane going faster than the speed of sound. MY FUCKING ASS IT COULD, I heard that shit and it was no fucking sonic boom. It sounded like fireworks or flares, but tons of them at the same time. Kinda like that one firework, that goes up, then blows and each ball blows again, then it crackles and fades out. That's what I heard anyway.

Where were people claiming the sound was coming from? The sky, underground, off in the distance?
No matter what it is, it's pretty interesting a sound like that (as opposed to a single explosion) could be heard all over a country.
This was heard throughout Costa Rica. Some officials are saying this could have something to do with fracking or hydraulic fracturing (no source)
