anyone got some cool ways to donate $$?

I was thinking of paying off some water bills for people.

any ideas besides the regular donate to charity?

My giving is pretty much just the guys holding out their cans on the street, and Kiva loans, but paying off city bills would be huge for a lot of people I'm sure.

Cool idea. Churches always have patrons in need. You could work with a local church in the area to anonymously donate for someone's rent/utilities/food etc...

buy a case of multi-vitamins and hand out to the homeless instead of the crack-cash they ask for

My daughter collects hotel sized soaps, shampoo, lotion, sewing kit, etc from friends and neighborhoods and makes little gift packs and takes them down to the local women's shelter

Paying city utilities for a family or something sounds awesome. +rep OP.

Back when I lived in a bigger city than I do now I used to take the occasional homeless person out to lunch/dinner. Usually they'd come up asking for money for food, but it was more likely to go towards crack or booze. So I'd tell them I didn't have any cash, but I'd be more than willing to go buy them lunch/dinner if they'd like.

Sometimes they would, sometimes they wouldn't. The ones that agreed where usually the people that were down on their luck but actually wanted to change their lives. The ones that didn't were probably perfectly happy being drug addicted panhandlers. Also, if I had the free time I'd actually stay and eat with the person I was paying for. It was usually an interesting conversation and hopefully it made their day a little better.

These are my kinda threads. With all the nonsense that goes on in STS you begin to wonder where the good natured people are!

I usually go to Burger King and order two of what I'm having and then give the other meal to the first person I see asking for food/money.

I sometimes think about sitting down and eating with them while having a chat but it appears a little pretentious to me. It would appear as if I'm trying to display that I'm kind and I've just donated a burger so I choose to just give the burger and disappear before the person has a chance to take a look at me or say thanks.

I ought to give more though and the moment I have enough income to be comfortable, I'll make a point of giving something daily.

I've decided to give 10% of my money post tax away to something.

There are a lot of nice people at WF under all the dickrolls and hurr durr that goes on here.

Man... that's really awesome. 10% is not an insignificant chunk of your income so I've got to give you props for that! I'm working on this Internet marketing thing and I hope I can get myself in a position to do that soon.

I've gotta admit, there are a lot more good-natured people than STS would lead you to believe.

Best of luck with the philanthropy man.
