Unsolicited email from (maybe) ex Google employee

Just received an unsolicited email from a person who "noticed that currently one of your key traffic drivers online is the use of Google AdWords."

He also mentioned that he was "an ex Google staff member who has recently migrated from the Google Head Office" and he's "currently working as a freelance PPC, SEO, SEM and Online strategy marketer for business "

What made me go WTF? was that he addressed me with my name that I only ever use for Adwords.

Checked the mail headers, all seem ok. Googled the email address & matched some forum posts in IE. If he wasn't from Google how did he get my name that I only use in AW?

Might ask him for some insider info .. :)
 


Have you heard of keyloggers, trojans, malware,browser hijacking, worms any of those terms?

If he worked for google it is possible he got your details but not password... if your gmail account was setup as the primary email for this adwords account then all he has to do is get a username/email address and click forgot password....

security was part of my job description when I worked for Big Blue, so yeah, I'm pretty much aware of those terms :)

Anyway, he's offering me PPC/SEO services, so will do a little fishing and see what's what.

Hm...I know it sound unbelievable but I did get lately decent number of e-mails promoting viagra and rolex watches. Nothing special except they came to e-mail which I used ONLY for sign-up/login to CPA networks and didn't shown anywhere on the interwebz. So.... :)

P.S. It's not on gmail, separate paid account.

He probably cleaned the toilets there. He heard some big wig talking about SEO and said fuck cleaning up smart guys shit all day.
 
Google has some serious NDAs in place with their employees, even people way down the trough. I'd imagine anyone with access to sensitive data would be begging for a lawsuit if they left the company and started soliciting people with their Google secretz.
 
Nuthin' we didn't already know.. excerpt of convo I had with this dude.

And yes, he is ex Google. Still bollocks on his explanation about how he got my email & name.

thanks, but right now I'll keep that to myself..... just in case I can grab a snippet that will make my life easier...if not, then yes, email incoming. He was in IE, that does check, as he's posted on IE specific forums - unrelated to Google or SEO, PPC, MMO etc.
He's now down under.
And how would you know? :) Unless you're employed by Google or have Google insiders?
