This shitstorm over the Koran burnings in Kabul by US soldiers is rapidly turning sour, according to a few news stories I've run across today.

BBC has reported that the NATO staff has quit and pulled out of some "ministry" base there in the center of the action, and RT is reporting something similar:

BBC said:
Four people were killed and dozens injured in clashes in the city, according to local doctors. Three more people were killed in the southern province of Logar.

The governor's house in Laghman province also came under attack on Saturday and there were demonstrations in Paktia, Nangarhar and Sari Pul provinces.

Nearly 30 people have died since the protests began on Tuesday.

RT said:
Saturday is the fifth days of protests with demonstrations taking place all across the country.

In a separate incident in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz, thousands attempted to storm the UN compound. At least three people have been killed and about 50 injured.

Saturday’s violence has added at least nine victims to the 25 killed in the first four days of protests.

The Taliban is taking credit for all these deaths, but US officials say that some of these attacks were made IN the secure areas, that had not been breached, so some of those deaths were by the hand of US-Trained Afgani police!

The protests don't show any sign of slowing down, either... We may finally have bitten off more than we can chew over there.

Here's hoping we pull out soon! That'll be sure to make the world despise Obama like never before... What do you guys think will happen if we pull out well before schedule?

The Democrats will use it as a campaign slogan.

Its election season. Now he can say he got us out of there while campaigning. The timing of this is no accident. Your also going to see gas prices spike up over the next 2 months and then crash to somewhere in the mid $2.25 to 2.75 range by the time the election roles around. Gotta make everyone feel good

The exact same thing that will happen if we left on schedule -- massive civil war followed by an indefinite period of complete anarchy.

We have no end-game that avoids a show-down between what's left of the Taliban and the rest of the country. Ultimately, we'll wind up doing what we should have done in the first place; keeping forces nearby and using drones and SOCOM to take out high value targets and disrupt their ability to export terrorism.

It's fucking pathetic how true this is. It makes me cringe, but thanks for reminding me that this happened in 2004 and 2008 just before the election.

This has more to do with the fact that winter gas is cheaper to produce than summer gas (the types of additives that need to be put into it). So gas prices will always fall leading up to an election since elections are held at the beginning of winter. And in 2008 there was a global economic collapse that contributed to the fall in gas prices.

I don't. The world's fucked, but at least it's stable for the most part right now, economies are humming along, etc. Just leave things as they are.

The "war on terror" is still just beginning, so pulling out of Afghanistan just means a new campaign will open somewhere else (ie. Iran or Syria). Then when that happens, everyone will get scared, markets get riled, oil price increases, middle classes around the world take another hit, which means we have less customers, and yeah... no good. Just leave shit the way it is, please.

There's ups and downs depending on season and election season is definitely one of them

Back in 2008, when that black douche got elected, was about the time i stopped listening to news. Wasnt he like first thing i do is quit those wars?

Any kind of media is a farce. Why even watch it.

Ummm, no. He said he'd get the US out of Iraq, but that was already predetermined and agreed upon during the Bush administration, so hardly tough to follow that one through.

Then he said he'd beef up the military presence in Afghanistan, which is exactly what he did. He never said he'd fall in love with drones so much though. He obviously thinks those are quite kick ass.

So why end one war but reinforce the other?

Because bin-Laden and his boys are situated in Afghanistan, not Iraq. Bush just went into Iraq for... whatever the fuck reason... had nothing to do with 9/11 though. Obama said get out of Iraq, and concentrate where al-Queda is, which is Afghanistan, and he followed through on that perfectly.

Please note, I don't actually believe any of this shit, and just think it's one big, made-up story to keep the military industrial complex alive and making money. And Obama did follow through, and even "killed" an unarmed bin Laden in a daring Navy Seal raid, then unfortunately proceeded to throw his body into the ocean only a few hours later. I know this because some military complex in Afghanistan told CNN they killed bin Laden, and CNN told me. So there you have it, case closed. :)

I appreciate that. So who gets to be the guy who tells the people that the money for the public healthcare system got used killing some guy who may or may not be dangerous?
