I know it's only a measly $50/year but my main focus is unifying and integrating everything I do. Been using calendar/gmail more and more lately due to the nice integration with Android and I am starting to become an API junkie in terms of making my life/business more streamlined by using gmail for business and some CRM apps.

Their new app marketplace looks promising too.

I guess my general disdain for the 'Do no evil' B.S. is making me seek out a reason not to.

You don't need the paid version ! I have been using the free version for over 1 year with no issues. Also the marketplace has some nice productivity tools.

I've used both free and paid versions. If you don't need 25gigs of space, go with the free version. Who cares if you see a few ads. If you're using android or any other email client, you're not going to see them anyway.

I already have a few of my outside email accounts feed into my gmail account (so I can send as...) what am I gaining with the free version of Google Apps that I'm not already getting with my regular gmail/calendar/docs? Is it just the additional apps?

If you are going to use the free version and NOT going to use the apps then I'd stick with Gmail. I love the paid version because it does look cleaner and more professional without the ads. Plus everything is managed under your domain name.

None of the apps have ever really impressed me that much. Esp. the CRM apps. As soon as they opened up their App marketing place all of them jumped on it. Even if the app integration is extremely loose. No thanks :)

Form what I can see here are the only differences between free and paid:

Message Allowances

Free: Email Storage: 7+ GB / Maximum email recipients per day per user: 500

Paid: Email Storage: 25 GB / Maximum email recipients per day per user: 2000

Also, if you have any employees with email on your domain, Google Apps is a convenient means to manage the accounts.

I switched over the Affiliate Summit staff emails to Google Apps after one too many Outlook issues for employees working remotely.
